Post: Good Detroit Neighborhoods For Rental Property Investment

Hi David, welcome back to Detroit (soon). I would start by searching BP for similar posts. There have been a number of people that have asked the same question in the last few months. That should be a good starting point.

Once you start getting an idea for areas you're interested in, IMO it's as simple as starting to drive the neighborhoods and get that look/feel yourself in person. It's a huge advantage to be here on the ground, because you can get that vibe that out-of-state folks simply can't tap in to.

As you may have already read, Detroit is very street by street. You can literally be on a "nice" street, go over one block and get a completely different vibe. Hone in on a couple of neighborhoods and start finding the pockets within them that you really like.

Sure, dude. Don't take it as an attack, but I won't be replying to you any longer. I just don't have the luxury of spending my time in that manner. Best of luck.

and you attacked me. You tried to prove that I was wrong and embarrass me.  And I am just here to stick up for myself as you have done this countless of times without reading like other people on BP.

I have not done anything of the sort countless times. The only poor interaction I've had on BP has been with you, and it was simply to stick up for a friend, Ashley, after you put her down.

If you have a problem with that I can't help you.

I wasn't attacking you (odd you see it that way). I was simply correcting misinformation. The city does have money to demo houses and commercial buildings (they're doing so now). They also have a plan to do all of the remaining structures. I pointed to legitimate sources with that link. If you see me correcting incorrect information as a personal attack you must have a very difficult time in day-to-day life. That must be tough, and I genuinely sympathize with you if that's the case.

Your link about the issues with the demolition program doesn't take away from the fact that progress is being made, or that the city has money to do it, or that they're demoing structures (that was your original claim... that they weren't doing those things). So I'm not sure what the relevance was with that.

Sure, the program has had issues but they're addressing it and moving forward.

LOL They can't even knock houses down right. You always get on BP and take 1 line and try to use it against someone to make yourself look inferior.

You Idiot Mayor Duggan is only laying out a vision.  This is not set in stone. Your just hoping Detroit turns out well because it is the only city you can afford to invest in.

Old news, bub.

If you care to attempt to insult me further, please do so via PM. Happy to destroy you privately so we don't detract from the quality of the thread. If you knew how to use Google you'd know how off base your personal attacks on me are.

Best of luck.

Travis Clearly doesn't read his own articles he references to others. All you do is type before you even read and collect reasonable thoughts.  SInce I've read that link many of times.  3/4 down the link you posted. It clearly states ...

  • "Since 2014, Detroit has taken down 18,093 vacant buildings in neighborhoods across the city. If we keep this pace, we can remove 40,000 blighted structures in about eight years, instead of the 30 years it would have taken us at our previous rate."

If you do the math boy, there is roughly 22,000 structures that still needs to be removed if your referring to your link.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO CHECK YOUR CREDIBILITY ROOKIE.

Darius, you clearly have a short attention span since you can't even explore the link I dropped. There is tons of information on that page, including the number of homes (and exact address) that are scheduled for demolition. Then there's this quote from this link:

"Since 2014, the City has demolished nearly 18,000 blighted structures, and the Detroit Land Bank has sold 6,000 vacant houses to be rehabbed and occupied. But there are still 18,000 abandoned houses in Detroit that we need to demolish in the next five years, without federal funds. At his May 2019 Mackinac Policy Conference address, Mayor Mike Duggan laid out this vision: Detroit will be free of residential blight by the end of 2024."

My good deed for the day: teaching a fool how to use the Internet.

Which results in a higher market demand for that location over time because there becomes limited housing. However, Detroit doesn't have enough money to even do that and they are thinking there is 40% more blighted homes than originally expected.

Maria, I saw your post on Facebook too. Join the "Metro Detroit Real Estate Investors Group". It's a far larger group than the one you posted in. Once in, visit this link:

I asked the same question on there a few weeks back and had 60+ comments. Hope that helps!

Ah, maybe I have it wrong. Regardless, my feelings about that area are the same. Lots of potential IMO.

It may not have been Telegraph we were on but definitely went through 7 Mile as the cross street. I’d have to go back and drive it but we were in Redford. So yes, maybe we were a bit more west
