I recently moved to Lincoln and moved states twice in the last 2 years. Each time I considered turning my house into a rental. The best advice I got was "Would you buy your house (at the price you are planning on selling it for) as a rental?" If not, like Megan said above, its probably better to sell and invest the money towards an intentional investment property.

Good luck!

Welcome to BP John! I just moved to Lincoln myself, but I know there is a REPG meetup on Monday 7pm at the Grata Bar and Lounge.

Good Luck on your rehab!

My family and I are moving from Atlanta to Lincoln (Work transfer) and in the future I will be looking to invest in buy and hold in the area. Short term we are looking for our own home. If anyone has any wholesale/live in flip opportunities, please let me know. Specifically we are looking for 3-4 bedrooms in south Lincoln.

Dean - My wife and I just moved to Sharpsburg 9 months ago. I'm new to the area but also focusing my search in the Sharpsburg/Newnan/PTC area.

Welcome to BP and Davenport! I'm also in the Davenport area and currently looking to purchase my first rental property. I know that @Gary Tomlinson has done a few flips recently in the area. Might be worth reaching out to him if you have any questions about flipping around here.

@Matt Holmer I agree, especially with the fact that most MFH on the market are pretty old. What are your thoughts on "true" duplexes vs converted duplexes? Or any size MFH for that matter.

Tara,

I live in Davenport and am also interested in investing in MFH in the quad cities. What size MFH are you looking at right now?

If you have time I'd be interested in meeting with you and learning more about your MFH goals.

A friend at work told me about BiggerPockets so I decided to check it out. Very impressed by everything available.

I haven't done any real estate investing (besides my own house) but I am interested in learning under someone who has some experience and making my own investments. As I've researched and learned about real estate I've developed my own "why's" for me personally.

1. I like the idea of a hard asset that I have more control over than an asset such as a stock.

2. I'm very interested in passive (or close to passive income).

3. In my day job I work with a lot of small business owners and I really enjoy seeing the impact they can make on their community and the leg up they can give their own children by teaching them aspects of the business regardless of whether they follow in their footsteps.

If  you are in the Quad Cities area I'd be happy to meet with you and learn more about this industry.

A little late to the game on this, but I would highly recommend Melissa Wegener if you are looking in the QCA market.
