Great to see a few other Auckland based investors and that there may be a mutual interest to learn off of each other and collaborate ideas with one another.

@James Scholz, seems like we have some things in common with our strategies. My wife and I are also interested in both hold opportunities and the occasional fix-n-flips.

We are still in the research phase, trying to fine tune the target market and the areas we would like to invest in. So far we are looking at; both student flats and family homes in the Roslyn, Takaro, Awapuni, CBD and Kelvin Grove areas of Palmerston North; single family homes in Kamo, Raumanga, Kensington and Hikurangi of Whangarei; and both student flats and single family homes in areas of Otago. We are mainly isolating our searches to the following criteria for Holds and Flips...

For Holds, we are looking to begin with a few properties that tick the following boxes:

  1. Able to purchase below market value
  2. Have potential for Forced Appreciation
  3. Able to increase rent
  4. Able to recycle the deposit into the next purchase
  5. Cashflow positive (pre-tax)
  6. Weekly rent is approx. double the (buy price divided by 10); eg, $300/wk : $150,000 cost

For Flips, we are looking for properties that will provide us with the following:

  1. Able to purchase below market value
  2. Have potential for Forced Appreciation
  3. Growth areas (5% or more)

This is great @Kevin Estey! Shout out to @Kyle Elmer for pointing this group out to me! My wife and I are Auckland based novice investors that are looking to build up a NZ and US investment portfolio in areas outside of Auckland.

Looking forward to contributing to the group where we can, as well as soaking up any advice others can provide us with, especially for investing in Do-ups and Rental Properties in Palmerston North, Whangarei and Dunedin.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for the warm welcome and all the advice. Yes, we're looking outside of Auckland at the moment - mostly Palmerston North, Otago and Whangarei.

Hi my name is Takashi. I am a father to two beautiful kids (a 2 year old and a 3 month old). My wife and I have decided this year that we wanted to take steps towards achieving financial freedom. We have attended various webinars, information sessions and seminars and are looking to get started on property investment. My wife and I are both US citizens (from Columbus, OH) and would eventually like to look into buying investment property there. However, since our primary residence is here in Auckland, we are looking to get started in NZ first. We are novice investors so any advice would be greatly appreciated!
