Jahaan Blake I haven't looked at Scottsdale. I think not knowing which area is best for investing in a remote city is a challenge, I am trying to find that out about Charlotte and hearing many conflicting opinions from different realtors as far as figuring out which area is good for investing.

Andrew Allen Round Rock is way overpriced right now, I am not sure if I can find something decent in my budget, and I am not really looking for a fixer upper. What do you think of Leander area? The property taxes are also lower and schools are good... but I don't know about rental and appreciation prospects.

Thanks everybody, really appreciate your insights. Yes it causes some discomfort to buy states away, also I am not very familiar with Charlotte area. Austin is tough market to get in for sure and higher tax rates cut into cash flow, but are there other advantages of buying in Austin besides proximity that I am missing on? Please help me understand the positives. Also which area in Austin you would focus on for higher prospects of good rental income?

Hi I am a newbie at investing in real estate and looking into buying a rental property that will generate positive cash flow plus have some appreciation prospects. I am looking at something around $250K. At this time I am looking at Dallas, Austin and Charlotte, NC markets, but not able to decide which one to zero on. I am not very familiar with Charlotte market but started looking into it since the property taxes are lower than Texas and also it has growing tech industry. Would love to hear your views about these markets. It will be extremely useful for me for focusing my search.

I see a mention about a year or so back on this thread that 28215 is a good area to buy rental investment property. Is it still a good area? Looking at the map, I cant figure out a reason why it is a hot area since I dont see anything nearby by this area that would attract renters to this place except for 485. Can somebody shed some light please?
