I am an owner, developer, and general contractor based in the Chicago area. I started in commercial real estate in 2004 in Los Angeles working as a commercial real estate broker for Marcus & Millichap.  I was fortunate to work with some amazing people who taught me a lot about real estate investing.  My focus was on office, industrial and medical office but I bought and sold all types including multi family and self storage.  

In 2010 I moved back to Chicago, my home town, and started my construction company.  We regularly do rehab and renovation projects for both commercial and residential property types, on our own projects and for our clients.  I've completed hundreds of construction projects in the Chicago area as well as consulted on development projects across the country for my clients and partners.  I am active in the investment community in Chicago and always on the lookout for the next rehab opportunity.  

I am also a real estate investor.  I have ownership in a variety of properties including multifamily, retail, strip center, multi tenant office and a hotel.  

My partners and I are always looking for opportunities to connect with other investors and increase our network.  I am also happy to answer any questions I can about real estate development and construction, so don't be shy, say hello!

@Kerry R Harris I recommend in the beginning that you not try to do everything on your own, if that is what you are thinking of doing, and you try to find a local investor in your area that you can work with on the first couple of projects.

@Eric Allgeier sorry to hear about the situation. I am assuming your tenant didn't let you know ahead of time about their situation or their intentions? They aren't paying rent, they just left and allegedly went to rehab? Sounds like they effectively abandoned their lease and left you holding the bag. Check with a real estate attorney before you do anything, especially with their personal items.
