@Michael Kulusich

you may not want to disclose that on a public forum where you use your full name as a screen name...

IRAs are generally used to invest in passive investments. The expenses that you are referencing are more associated with business expenses not passive investment expenses.

@Dmitriy Fomichenko

mahalo (thanks) for your response

what about meeting prospective realtors/contractors/property managers, or to look at new properties to purchase?

i guess if it's even considered close to being a prohibited transaction, i will stay far, far away from it since i don't want to risk my IRA status

do any of you folks here pay your travel expenses to visit properties (that you already own or are considering buying) through your self-directed IRA?

or is this a prohibited (or risky) transaction?

@Chris Clothier

"We built a list of followers through our blog and posting on BP and then spent a lot of time putting on small events in cities all over the place where we had followers on our list. We went to Chicago, Boston, New York, Boca Raton, Dallas, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Fran, Los Angeles - probably 10 to 12 cities in California and sometimes meeting with only 2 or 3 investors."

you left out hawaii

:)
