@Solo Scott, short answer is yes. Long answer, that depends on many things. Even though there are better returns in the midwest, I believe Charleston will be one of the more expensive real estate markets on the east coast, south of D.C. and north of Palm Beach, which is most of the east coast. In the next 10-20 years, (as long as the Government of South Carolina doesn't screw it up) the Charleston metro will continue to climb in value. Right now we are still purchasing sfh's for less than $60/sft with great COC returns and attractive annual appreciation and rapid neighborhood turnover. Investing downtown is for big ego's, or the very lucky, however the surrounding areas are still great and affordable.
