Hello Mike, Syracuse and surrounding area is benefitting from an influx of tech companies and a huge chip manufacturing company, Micron, which is building a $100 billion fab over the next 20 years. 

I agree with Jaycee, but be cautious with other organizations having a "master lease" on your property. I have clients that have these kinds of arrangements, and while it is easier when an org fills your units, you can lose control of maintenance and cleanliness. While the lease will most likely include maintaining the units themselves, these organizations are not going to manage it anywhere close to what you could and should do. I would 100% get a great property manager to lease it out and keep the property's value as good as or better than when you purchased it.

Hello Greg, welcome to Bigger Pockets, I have found that the clients I work with that came from BP are the most successful. You learn a lot about data and analysis, renovation costs and dealing with tenants which can mitigate some of the fear of investing.
Don’t rely too much on others to guide you ultimately, there will be many voices that tell you how difficult real estate can be, about tenants who flush steaks down the toilet (has happened to me) and evictions in NY. These things do happen, but the net positives of investing in real estate lead to powerful wealth creation that a 9-5 doesn’t provide.

Hello Matthew, congrats on your house hack, that’s a huge start to building wealth! If you have a lot of equity that you can use for the next property, that’s a great way to build your portfolio, make sure the potential rents would have no problem paying the mortgage. I would caution against getting a partner, there are some real downsides no matter who it is, I’ve been through it with great people and it can be difficult to manage two visions.
