Hello Stanly,
Congrats!
Choosing a firm really depends on what your needs are. From my experience, most brokerages are actively hiring at all times and will gladly bring you in to discuss their operation and the possibility of you joining. When speaking with potential brokerages, make sure to interview them to make sure its a mutual fit. Check the usual job posting sites (indeed, craigslist, etc.) and/or use google to make a list of brokerages and then make a pros and cons list for each.
Off the top of my head, below are some considerations to keep in mind:
-Training is important for new agents so make sure the training they offer is sufficient for your needs. Will you learn from classes/seminars? Do you need 1 on 1 training? Would you like to join an active team?
-Many brokerages will not charge desk fees. Regardless ask about the cost to start- do you need to pay REBNY dues, order business cards, pay for advertising?
-What is the commission split? Is there room for growth?- If so when/how can you earn a better split
-Some people prefer larger brokerages with recognizable branding while others like myself prefer a smaller boutique feel
-Which areas do you plan to work? Are they active there?
-How many agents/ brokers are affiliated? Having successful and friendly agents around the office putting up big numbers can be very motivating- and you can likely learn a lot about their approach to the business.
Best of luck, and keep in mind that even if you choose a brokerage and realize 3 months its not a good fir for you, you can always go work somewhere else.
