@Kirk R. Savage is a great little area.  It's much more ideal than Shakopee.  We are only here because the rent is cheaper.  We've yet to purchase in Minnesota.

@Laura Williams @Kirk R. @Nathan Brooks @Elizabeth Colegrove thanks all of you for your kind advice and warm welcomes.  I appreciate the tips, and think we may just need to find a home first and an investment second.

Hello BP community,

My wife and I are still searching and researching the area for a primary residence. We are new to the area and we'd much rather live in an investment for a few years and rent it out later. Any tips? We are thinking of scooping up a good wholesale purchase or a HUD discount. If you had to buy a home to live in, how would you do it in today's MN market?

I'd like to swap ideas with anyone interested in networking with a new investor with little experience with this area.  I have some landlording experience, but unfortunately that Las Vegas property was lost in the crash of 2008.  Please reach out and let's help each other out and make each other better and more profitable investors.

@Paul S. it's nice to make your acquaintance.  The area I live is south burb.  I have almost no working knowledge of the northern areas, other than that it's less desirable in terms of quality of life.  I'm learning there are pockets of good and bad all over.

Thanks Phillip.  I'm definitely a fan of this site already.

Vegas was a steal a couple years ago, and I think there's still plenty of potential with these super low rates.  Minnesota is definitely not Nevada but I'll eventually find something.

Hello everyone, I'm Sean.

My wife and I moved out here to the Midwest after some struggles in the Las Vegas market.  We needed a fresh start.

I like what REI has the potential to do for me and my famliy in the long term.

I've just been reaching out to anyone who will pay attention to "the new guy"

I'm interested in buy and holds and possibly even a flip down the road.

I'm new to this site as well Kanna.  My name is Sean and I live in Shakopee, MN.  I've been exploring properties in the Rochester area.

@Tim Johnson

Thanks for the repy Tim.  Your advice is welcomed greatly.

I have a very secure job.  You can probably guess from my profile picture.  I have thought about that, but the risk is incredibly minimal.  I would probably be hesitant to borrow the whole 50k.  Its just what I have to work with TODAY.
