Thanks, @Martin Vehlow, I knew it couldn't be in unincorporated Lake County, but there are plenty of Airbnb houses in Waukegan, Libertyville, and a few in Mundelein etc.  I've looked into a few of these remote management companies like evolve and Vacasa, but I was hoping someone knew of something that was local. I have friends that I can possibly employ there, but I don't want to burden people with it either.

I am looking for some assistance in both buying and managing a short term rental in Lake County, IL, preferably in Grayslake, Gurnee, Libertyville, Waukegan or Vernon Hills.  I assume I'll be trying to get traffic from either Six Flags Great America traffic or Navy Graduation families.

My main reason for purchasing in this area is to have a vacation home for myself. I am originally from the area and still have family here, and therefore want to be here during the summer (in the winter, no thank you!). I would like to rent it out short term for the rest of the year.  I am mainly looking to cover my costs of ownership, but since I'm in the real estate investment business at home in Florida, long term appreciation and general cash flow would be great too!

So if anyone has great contacts/recommendations for management of a short term rental in this area, please send them my way. Or if any realtors have opinions or knowledge of specific neighborhoods they'd say to avoid because of STR unfriendly-ness, please let me know.

Thanks in advance folks!

Stephen Anderson I'd love to see the list of your currently available properties. I'm an investor that recently moved to the area.

We're planning on relocating from IL to the Daytona Beach, Florida (Ormond Beach, Port Orange, New Smyrna) area this summer. I'm headed to DAB mid-April to look at some potential personal homes, but I'd also like to look at potential investment properties. We may end up building our own home in Port Orange, so we might consider buying a condo on the beach to live in until the house is complete, and then use the condo as either long term or vacation rental. Also interested in buy and hold for long term rentals on the mainland if we can find some good neighborhoods. We own 2 rentals in IL, so we're already investing, but since we'll be new to the Daytona area I'd to work with someone who'll know the idiosyncrasies of the investment market in the area. We're planning on expanding our investments quite a bit when we move, so if I find the right person I'd love to have someone we'll continue to work with. Thanks for any and all recommendations!

Hi Tom,

I live in the Chicago area right now, but I have a great deal of family all over Volusia Co, and am planning on moving to Port Orange in the next year. Once we're there, or a bit before, I'll be looking for buy and holds or potentially fix and flips in the area, so please keep me in mind. Potentially looking at small multi-family or SFH. Open to some commercial as well if a deal makes sense.

Welcome to BP, and always glad to hear another member joined from Daytona!

My name is Shane, and I'm currently living in Grayslake, IL which is a far north Chicago suburb.  I own 2 rental properties, a former primary home of ours, a 3/2.5 in Round Lake, IL and a condo in Oak Park, IL.

I say that I'm also from Daytona Beach because my wife and I are thinking about relocating to the Daytona Beach or Jacksonville area.  So I'm maybe looking for some advice on that as well. The property taxes in our current area are sky high, and I feel like our money would go much farther down in FL.

I want to continue to purchase buy and hold properties (or fix and flip depending on the deal) to eventually quit a traditional 9-5.  We have a 4 year old son, and twins on the way, so I'm probably a long way from quitting the 9-5, but a guy can dream!
