@Maria Salas, welcome indeed!

I have owned multiple multifamily complexes in Yakima for a number of years.  If your wholesale opportunities ever expand into larger multifamily, definitely reach out to me since I am a full time real estate investor and active buyer for cash flow properties.

Enjoy BP!

@Stacy Edwards, yes we plan to meet again.  I recommend searching for “Whidbey Island Real Estate Investors” on Facebook (primary) or Meetup.com (secondary) and signing up for group notifications and discussions there.

The Whidbey Island Real Estate Investors group will be kicking off the new year with a Zoom meeting that features actionable Whidbey-specific market updates plus real world stories by a local self storage and commercial properties investor.

Local broker Tom Trimbath has completed his detailed quarterly analysis of the Whidbey Island market and will provide us with his findings. Jahleel Vester will provide info on financing options for 1-4 unit residential investors. Jason Joiner will share his observations on current financing for larger multi-family and commercial deals.

Charlie Walsh will provide the main presentation about his investing journey. He spent the last 12+ years working in tech startups before returning to his roots in commercial real estate investment and development. He focused on self storage and acquired his first facility in Coupeville last year. Charlie is now working on ground up development of a new self storage facility in Oak Harbor and actively seeking additional acquisition opportunities both on and off the island. A Seattle area native, Charlie moved to Langley with his wife and four young children mid-2019 after spending two years living in South America. For more info, see www.linkedin.com/in/charlesawalsh or www.WalshInvestment.company.

Our meetings are open to both active and aspiring real estate investors. We provide a supportive environment for information sharing and collaboration among local real estate investors.

Post: How can you automate fans to reduce moisture/mold?

We have a recurring issue with mold appearing in various places in various units.  Proper ventilation would likely eliminate it, though the tenants do not make the effort to use or leave on ventilation fans.  I was wondering what automated solutions you may have used successfully?  I have been thinking about whether or not a low volume / quiet/ always-on bathroom fan with a selectable high volume mode connected to the wall switch may exist.  We have also used automatic humidity sensing switches, though the results are sporadic plus it does not allow for the fans to be run during low humidity scenarios when a fan is still desired (they should be enable to run the fan as much as possible).  Any ideas?

@Chris A., glad to hear that you will be coming to Whidbey soon.  I have been extremely busy and am the primary organizer, so that plus COVID has reduced their frequency recently.  We prefer in-person meetings, though did most recently have a great Zoom-based meeting and may do that again before (hopefully) getting back to in-person meetings once our venue re-opens to larger groups.  As mentioned, be sure to join our Meetup.com group (Whidbey Island Real Estate Investors) for announcements and meeting invites.  We also occasionally post on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/group....  We generally include optional discussions on what people are working on, so it would be great to hear about what you are doing in your real estate investing + life scenario.

Whidbey investors, we are back! Waiting for a "return to normal" of us getting together in person is taking waaaaay too long. So, let's get our new year started off right with a Zoom-based virtual get together.

Local real estate expert Tom Trimbath will educate us about the big local real estate changes that occurred in 2020 and are currently underway across the entire Whidbey Island real estate market. We will discuss differences between north/middle/south, where housing demand is hottest, property type comparisons, trends / projections for the future, and other investor related topics. Also, we will include financing, group introductions, and roundtable discussion.

WHEN: Tuesday January 26 6:00pm
WHERE: Zoom / online video
HOW:
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82771145609?pwd=dlBLQjdua01RT0k0RlZIQ2wrVGpRdz09

Welcome to Whidbey, @Chris A..  Glad to see that house hacking is working for you.

If you are ever interested to meet other local Whidbey Island investors, you can join our Meetup.com group "Whidbey Island Real Estate Investors".  We met regularly before COVID and plan to re-start again after that gets under control, plus you can reach out to members in the interim if you ever need anything.  We have a wide range of local members and backgrounds to mastermind with.

@Caylon Haggard, I own two apartment complexes in Yakima and have direct experience with all of the large property management firms in Yakima.  I agree with @Peter Welch's good assessment.  There are a couple other decent options in Yakima such as Rent Ready and Home Source, too.  All of them have a different approach, team structure, software and reporting variations, fee structures, and plusses/minusses, and it also depends upon the type of property you want to have managed.  None are perfect.  Overall, I would recommend Landmark as well.  You can contact owner Ryan at their office.
