@Jon K. HAHAHA! That's pretty funny and sadly accurate.

I am lied to on a daily basis. Most of the time I can figure out what is really going on or at least figure out that I am not being told the truth. My question is what should I do with these people?

I guess we get so used to going into someone’s house and having them tell us a story that we instantly know is not accurate. We get phone calls from people trying to buy our houses who clearly do not have the ability. We hear excuses from contractors that range from little white lies to blatant fraud. It seems I experience this daily.

I normally just move on and do not let the person lying to me know I am not fooled. I just let it brush off my shoulders, accomplish what my immediate goal is, and move away from that person in the future. Is this the right approach? Should I be investing the energy to confront these people with their falsehoods? That sure seems like an unproductive use of my time. I just can not justify getting into an argument with someone who I plan on removing from my life.

I see it people who do not seem to have the ability to let it brush off their shoulders. They will engage with the nontruth teller. This leads to confrontation with arguments that I have seen get out of hand really quickly. The negative energy that is created in these engagements is huge and I would think it lingers with them for a long time. Maybe I am wrong though. Maybe the release is healthy and prevents an internal malignant build up.

Whichever way people choose to deal with dishonest individuals I think it is a reality that is this business you will run across them on a regular business. Just go to your local REIA meeting and you will see what I mean. 😊

Know lots of smart people that sit around and do nothing, because, well they're too smart for that kind of stuff.

Making a step and showing initiative will always trump inaction, no matter how smart your are.

More is lost from inaction than from the wrong action.

Money, white male privilege and rich parents.

Don't you read the papers or watch TV news?

I think there are a lot of elements and I am not sure if hustle is number 1 but there is a good argument that it is.

@Felicia Feliciano Interesting perspective. I guess my question is how smart do you have to be to do what everyone else is doing. Same numbers, same formulas, what makes smart a standout at that point?

@Karl B. I think that is a pretty good way to look at it. Hustle may just be the largest slice of pie.

There are a ton of elements to being a successful Real Estate Investor. You need to acquire an education about the industry particularly which aspect you plan on focusing on. You need to learn about sales, marketing, customer service, construction, contracts, laws, negotiating skills, employee management, accounting, finance and a million other things. Keeping all that in mind do you think there is anything more important than hustle?

I have seen some bright people enter the business and fail because they did not possess the desire you need and did not dedicate themselves. They simply would not get up every morning and hustle. On the flip side I have seen some unbelievably naïve and less than competent individuals do well because they were ready to grind. They hit the floor running in the morning and continued that enthusiasm all day every day. The rest of the stuff they just figured out over time.

I have a friend who is retired from the business living abroad off his passive income who told me he knew it was time to move on when he realized he just was not hungry enough to put in the hustle. When you have bills to pay and a yearning ambition inside to succeed it is easy to find the hustle within. At least it should be if you plan on being an entrepreneur.

The time it takes to do tasks is nothing compared to the enthusiasm of jumping in your car to chase down a “hot” lead. That hustle in my opinion is parallel to none.

@Farheen Naveed Hey, if you didn't lose money and came away with experience and lessons learned I would count that as a win.

Someone who was very new to the business reached out to me today. They were nervous about a deal they were working on and wanted some advice. I had a few minutes and whenever I can I try to help people. Hoping to build up those Karma points. 😊 The deal was a pretty routine wholesale deal where the investor did not have much at risk, so it was easy to offer them some pointers which helped build up their confidence.

When the relatively brief phone call was over it got me thinking about how routine everything becomes. It is not unheard of for us to buy a house site unseen and all of the nerves have pretty much gone away over the years. I wonder if this is a good thing. Obviously, it could lead to getting too lax and doing something stupid but beyond that. When I used to get nervous about a deal it was exciting. That was part of what made Real Estate a great journey.

I think when Real Estate is new you can find yourself in a sense of euphoria. There is something to learn around every corner. The deals are fresh and exciting. The times when you could not sleep at night, while not fun in the moment, are remembered now with a sense of nostalgia.

We all hope to evolve in most aspects of our lives and if you are anything like me you are always looking towards the future. Do we need to find new adventure in life to keep us interested? Do we always need to try and think bigger, go for more, strive for something just out of reach? Sometimes little moments in our lives make us stop and ponder. I had one of those moments today.
