Interested in knowing about the best places for cash flow as well! I am an airline pilot with the ability to travel and live anywhere and am currently being preapproved for my first purchase using my VA loan. Really just want to make as much money as I can on my first purchase because I am rarely home anyways.

@Matthew Rolf

Thanks Matthew! Where is your best friend based? I'm definitely excited about my upcoming house hack. I'm currently reading the Bigger Pockets House Hacking book and plan to obtain a house every year with the strategy. First with my VA loan and then with the FHA 203k a year later.

I agree living close to the airport would be much easier for commuters. I only plan to make one bedroom a crash pad room to give myself a mix of extra cash flow and stability. I know a group of coworkers that are currently on reserve indefinitely and have at least 1-2 cars among them. They can also borrow my car when I’m flying so location is not necessarily a deal breaker. The other bedrooms will be for long term tenants on one year leases.

I am also talking to Veterans United and agree they are great to work with. I’m a member of Chase Bank and have also applied with them to compare rates.

Any other suggestions always welcome! Thanks again for the response.

@Wale Lawal Thanks for the response. Your 8-unit project sounds right up my alley.  I will DM you when I know exactly what days I can offer a helping hand!

Hello Everybody! First time posting here. I have been reading tons of Bigger Pockets and other RE books the last few months and am ready to start investing. I am a regional pilot in Houston out of IAH-George Bush airport. I have never owned a home before and am currently not renting either as I have been saving money on rent and traveling the past year. I am a veteran and plan to use my VA loan to purchase a nice house in Houston, possibly near downtown, with no money down. I already have a few coworkers interested in living with me when I buy my house. I am thinking 3-4 bedrooms with a garage. I might live in the garage myself to free up an extra bedroom to rent out since I won't be at the house a lot anyways. I also might make one bedroom a crash pad with 2 bunkbeds for pilot commuters to make extra money on that room.

I am single and capable of moving whenever I want. I am hoping to live in my first house for the minimum required time period and then buy a second house using the FHA loan and house hacking a second time.

If anybody has any advice on any of this, or just for new investors in general, I am all ears!  Would also love to start networking with other investors in Houston.  If anybody needs an intern, I work hard and learn quickly.  I would be glad to come help you out on my days off!
