I do a lot of remodeling in Maryland. Montgomery county used to make me put dual power in every sleeping area when we did an extensive remodel, even when those rooms' ceilings were not easily accessible. In other words, it involved a lot of plaster patches afterwards. They have recently decided that lithium smoke detectors can replace these dual powered smoke alarms for these more difficult areas. The lithium batteries last ten years and at the end of that time the smoke detector is discarded. Perhaps these may be an option for you?

Hi, you should check out the podcasts. Josh and Brandon interview different investors about their strategies and how they got started. There is some great information there.

Not sure that Frederick is dead, but definitely not as much activity Montgomery county or Baltimore. I am only just starting to learn about real estate and have not yet had a chance to explore the opportunities in Frederick. My general impressing though is that population growth is strong and there is lot of new construction planned for the county. It seems a lot of the new population will be commuting south. The schools are also very good in the county, though not so much in Frederick city. I know of a couple of people up here who have rented to military transfers.

Congratulations! I have really enjoyed listening to these podcasts since discovering BiggerPockets. I have nearly listened to them all at this point! I always recommendthem to anyone I meet who is interested in real-estate.

Thanks!

Hello All, I discovered Bigger Pockets a couple of months back and have been listening to the pod casts on my long commute to and from work. I think they are really cool; very inspirational and a lot of great information. Although I am originally from Scotland, I have been living in the U.S for sixteen years, the last eight of which have been in Maryland, which is where I bought my first house. I work in the remodeling business as a carpenter overseeing various size projects. This, along with buying a house at one of the worst possible times -2005- has given me a keen interest in the real estate market. Although initially skeptical of it, I have come to think of real estate as a great opportunity for me. At the moment, I am trying to learn as much as I can, about what can be a very confusing subject. There is so much information! Soon, I would like to start rehabbing and flipping properties around Frederick, Maryland; with the eventual goal of being involved in buy and hold and producing some passive income for my family.
