Anything is possible, @Joe Pearson. :) I grew up helping my Dad DIY around the house and my husband has great finishing skills. The tasks that were over our head we saved up and subbed it out!

Investment Info:

Single-family residence fix & flip investment.

Purchase price: $425,000
Cash invested: $20,000
Sale price: $875,000

We purchased the smallest and most unattractive house on the block in Astoria, Queens. We house hacked the property, Airbnb'd the basement suite, lived for free, and sold her four years later.

How did you finance this deal?

FHA

How did you add value to the deal?

Added a full bath in the basement, created an Airbnb suite, and renovated the entire property.

Hi @Sean McDonnell! Congrats on the upcoming nomad life!

We've had a decent amount of success renting it out for sure. We're trying to perfect the system as, right now, we drop it off and pick it up from renters each time we get a booking. While this isn't a big deal and we do charge for our time -I'd love to explore parking it somewhere more permanently so I can make it a bit more hands off like with my traditional Airbnbs.

Right now we just use RVShare and Outdoorsy b/c renters cannot just pull up and stay in our RV where it is currently -we have to bring it to them. And RVShare and Outdoorsy cater to that kind of share economy set up.

If I could do anything different knowing what I know now I'd buy an RV that was gently used...not brand new. :)

Let me know if you have additional questions!

-Sarah

@Sam Garcia I've been an Airbnb host for over 7 years now and have hosted in both NYC and Columbus, OH. Is your question hypothetical or have you secured a property and you're just ready to take ownership?

I love the Airbnb model because it marries my passion for hospitality, design, real estate, and making great cashflow! That being said, there is different work involved getting it set up and running it efficiently. If you're just wanting to Airbnb while waiting to fill a space with a long-term tenant I don't believe it would be worth the initial investment for you. That being said, if you're interested in what it takes to be a great host it's truly a wonderful platform. If you've got specific questions, feel free to PM me!

It is! We’re working on making it more passive at the moment. But one long weekend rental can bring in around $1,000. Our monthly payments are $300. If we can find somewhere to park it it’ll be a game changer!
