I am also in the Indy area looking for a duplex. Are there other areas that have better inventory right now for multi-family homes? Thanks1

Hello BP,

My family owns a real estate business of which I am a part of and are looking at transferring some properties to Section 8 based on the location we are in. What are some pros and cons to having a Section 8 rental property?

Thanks!

@Cassidy Burns Purchase my first rental property this year by myself away from my family business. I want to get invested in a duplex where I can rent both sides between the price range of $120k-$140K and maybe a little higher depending on the location.

Thank you for your replies.

Saving and getting a good education are important to me, but there is no education like the experiences you get while investing in real estate itself. School doesn't teach you that, it just punishes you for making mistakes. I have been working on saving money for a while and with living at home and with the scholarships I have received, school is mostly paid for.

I have enough saved up, that I am starting to look for a duplex, around the $120K-140K price range that will profit between $100-$150 per side per month after all expenses and long term upkeep. (I want to rent both sides) I hope to get a property by the end of this year. Near my area would be nice, but if I make good connections with others in different parts of the country, then I am willing to invest just about anywhere.

Hello,

My name is Samuel Freeman. I joined Bigger Pockets a while ago, but want to get more involved and back into things and start making connections. What is the best way for me to get started? I am 20 years old and in college, so I want to start small and start gaining experience now.

Thanks!

Hi Bigger Pockets!

My name is Samuel Freeman and I'm new to Bigger Pockets. I am currently attending IUPUI striving towards a degree in Finance and Accounting. My interest in real estate started three years ago when I listened to a book on real estate that my parents had me listen to. I was able to persuade my parents to start a real estate business and we have been investing in it ever since, owning several rentals now. I now want to become more independent and start working with other people on own.

I recently joined a real estate club at my school, of which I joined the executive board, and that is how I heard about Bigger Pockets. I hope to grow my connections through this site and learn about all of the different opportunities available for investors.
