Networking will be important no matter what business line you jump into but there's more to it than that in REI- building relationships in real estate is crucial. I'm quickly learning that in hot market times such as this, good and honest professionals may be harder to come by (demand is there). Build your team and treat them like gold, and they'll do the same in return!

thank you all for your input, I appreciate it. A ton of back and forth here. I did ultimately decide to enroll - I'm excited to get started with an additional angle of learning for investment opportunities. Here goes nothing!

Hi All!

I am new to investing, looking to get into flips initially and then potentially work my way into buy and hold properties. I was thinking about obtaining my real estate license (Pennsylvania) in order to learn a bit more but more importantly, access the MLS. From my understanding, I would have to hang my license under a broker in order to be active and access the database. At the moment, I have my current full time W2 job while also actively pursuing my own investment properties and flips, so dedicating additional time to a broker sounds daunting. I've done my fair share of research and some may say "waste of time, find an agent for the MLS automated listings"- but wouldn't it be helpful if I could do myself? Any insight or guidance here? Any and all information is appreciated. [I'm located in Philadelphia, if that helps :)]

Thanks!

-Stephanie

@Sheryl Sitman Thank you for the advice - the learning curve seems steep, but it seems as if this is the stage that most new investors get caught up in. And I do agree, the Philly market is huge! It will be interesting to navigate thru the neighborhoods/areas that are worth the investment. Always willing to take advice from experienced investors like yourself :)

Hey BP Folks!

I'm Stephanie, new to the world of real estate investing. I've been a fan of the BP podcasts and books for quite some time but have more recently decided to join the BP community.

As the story goes, I'm working in the corporate world but looking to break into house flipping/hacking (financial freedom?!). While I've busted my hump to grow my career, I'm looking for something a bit more fulfilling. I'm in my early 30's, no kids (yet) and currently renting. My thoughts are "if not now, when?" My fiance and I are both in the same boat and ready to dive in. We're constantly reading/listening and learning all we can to be prepared for our first purchase. There is a ton to learn, but so far the BP forums and tools have been amazing.

We're located in Philadelphia and looking to purchase in the city/suburbs and will most likely look to jump over to the NJ area as well. I would love to start networking and connecting. Please feel free to reach out and say hello!
