@Marquis W. I am a newbie and I am trying to get started in real estate investing. I work a regular job an have a wife and kids and am trying to get into this game to build wealth for my family.  PLEASE do not do anything like you have described above as part of a strategy. It is incredibly dishonest. And it gives the rest of us a bad name, which makes it that much harder for people like me to get started.

@Wes Singleton The plan right now is to find a single-family home in the Okolona/Highview/ Fern Creek area that is a minor fixer and move into that. My current home (residence) in Okolona will be move-in ready, which I'd like to rent out as my first landlording gig. I'm meeting with my realtor tonight.

@Jack Middleton Sounds like you have a similar strategy-I'd like to hear more about it. Maybe we can meet up at one of those REI meetings in town you mentioned. Let me know!

Hey there! Name is Russ Fallon from Louisville, KY. I'm in my mid-20's and work in the J-town area in the manufacturing field.

I've had a few entrepreneurial experiences, but decided to get serious when a loved one was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. It came as a shock and really opened up my eyes to how precious life is. I've realized I need to be doing all I can to live life to the fullest. I'm really interested in starting my RE investing career with long-term buy/hold strategies in rental properties. My general long-term goal is financial freedom, so that I can spend more time with family and enjoy living while I can.

Some books I've read that have gotten me started on this journey: Rich Dad Poor Dad, The 4-Hour Work Week, Building Wealth One House at a Time, and The Book on Rental Property Investing (which is what brought me to BiggerPockets!)

I'm excited to be here and just itching to get started on my first deal here in Louisville. Look forward to making friends here on BP. Folks in Louisville/Kentuckiana areas, give me a shout!
