I am a brand new investor who is looking to gain more knowledge and experience. I am interested in multi-units to hold as rentals. I currently own a duplex in which I live in and it is working out fantastic for me. I originally was interested in real estate investing in order to gain time freedom.

Thank you so much Sharon for the detailed explanation. That helps me out and gives me a general guide to go by. Thanks again!

Well the building is 133 years old but has been properly maintained and still has its old architectural design in the woodwork and fireplace inside. Also has a marble foyer with hard wood floors. It looks like who had it took care of the place. It is located in the Centre Park Historic District of the city. No issues of asbestos or lead-based paint. I do not have a lot of money to start out and that is why I am going the route with purchasing multi-units to create that second source of income.

I am a new investor to the real estate business and to this site and I wanted to know if someone could tell me how many multi-units I would need to purchase and rent out to be able to be financially independent and not have to hold a full time job doing something I don't like to do. My strategy is to start out purchasing multi-unit properties in nice areas to hold and rent out. I currently have a 2 unit (owner occupied) and may have found a beautiful 3-unit property in the historic district of the city. Any suggestions and/or opinions are greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!
