Thanks @Jesse Peña and @Melissa Gittens

@Chad Duval awesome. that's very different than my experience - I currently rent in a 2-unit and my landlord lives upstairs.  I rarely ever see him or his family... maybe we're just easy tenants...  Also, be careful on the bike - cops are more strict in Cambridge I've gotten a ticket on mine haha. Do you have any properties in MA now?

Also, @Kevin Scanlon and Chad, I'm in Cambridge too - want to grab a beer in one of the squares?

Thanks @Kevin Scanlon. Do you still own the multi-family in CT? Are you house hacking in Cambridge now? Would definitely like to hear about your experience with that and what you are trying to do in MA.

@Chad Duval do you have any experience with house hacking too? By the way, you have an awesome looking website. What prompted you to move to Camb?

I was wondering if there are any tools out there that map out the quality of housing in different areas - essentially a heat map of A, B, C, etc streets/neighborhoods.  I know generally where these are in my area, but if there were ways to explore pockets of say, "B" areas within a typically "C" neighborhood/town.

I know there are crime indexes and these I'm sure will correlate to what I'm looking for - but are there any other tools anyone can point me to?

Thanks

Thanks for the tip @Richard I'll check that out.

I've actually taken a first time home buyer class in Cambridge and got a certificate last year - I'm wondering if that's the same type of program. I don't qualify for the One mortgage, but do qualify for Mass housing @ 5% down which allows me to get a little more.

Good luck with the 3 family in Dot!

Hi all,

I've been looking for properties for about a year now in the Boston area.

Looking to network, learn more, and buy my first property.

Ideally I'm looking to find a multi-unit to live in and rent out that is walking distance to the train (MBTA), but have become discouraged based on the market in Boston and Cambridge area over the year. I am looking to cover my mortgage with the rental income, just like everyone.

Are there any meetups that people go to in the Boston area? I saw REIA groups are in Dedham and Medford (or Malden? I forget)... Anything else more central to Boston/Cambridge?
