Wow! Thanks everyone for your warm welcome and the references! I'll start looking into these right away. For now, I have a question. I want to know what everyone thinks of sites like Redfin and Zillow. I tried to find an answer to this in other posts (although I must admit, I didn't look THAT hard). How accurate are they with their prices and their estimates? Their monthly payment calculators vary significantly. I realize that each site may leave out things like taxes and what not in their calculations, which is why I prefer to look at Redfin's since it includes a lot information I didn't consider before (I'm talking about the calculator in the mobile app), but how accurate are they really?

Hi Everyone!

My name's Nick and I'm an engineer in my mid 20's in the Los Angeles area.  After finding this site last night and listening to a podcast this afternoon, I felt really encouraged and excited to join and say hi!  I'm new to the nitty gritty of real estate, but it's always something that has interested me.  I'm looking to get property soon to provide extra income as a rental, leaning towards out of state, but I'm open to suggestions.  If anyone is willing to help out, even better! : )

Anyway, I'll be perusing through some of the material on this site for the time being.  Feel free to drop me a line!
