how about bomb sniffing pigs? Costs are lower because they can eat just about anything.

Hello, they are sold at my local home depot. Not sure if it's carried nationally. They call it VCT (vinyl composite tile). I've been to quite a few home depot stores...these tile are usually in the commercial vinyl sections, separate from the rest of the tiles. I have not found it at Lowes. I'll see if I can find a link.

I would propose this to be in place of the new scanners and enhanced patdowns. I think the metal detectors would still serve a separate purpose.

The current administration could count the dogs in their fabled "saved or created" jobs. that would offset the animial rights concerns.

I really think that the use of bomb and drug sniffing dogs would be much more effective and less intrusive than the current measures at the airports. I know that they are used sometimes behind the scenes for luggage...but what about using them right there in the security lines? I think that would be intimidating for any proposed terrorist. I also can't imagine that the cost would be any more than employing all those TSA employees and scanners. In addition, it would move the lines along much more quickly IMO.

Any drawbacks to this? Other thoughts?

Please stop with the name calling. We've all been warned about personal attacks, however you continue to name call on a consistant basis. It is generally considered bad form to call people nuts, idiots, etc for simply disagreeing with you. Just thought I'd throw that out there, most of the time this is an unspoken rule, but apparently needs to be spoken so that we can continue to use this section for spirited debate.

Some people, as demonstrated by the years of debate on this forum, enjoy debating with others that disagree with them. Although it does get heated, at the end of the day the banter is considered fun. Other people think everyone is crazy for not thinking the same way and just avoid the debate. A very few minority tend to think that everyone else's viewpoint should be shut down. This is unhealthy and unwelcomed. If you think everyone is an idiot or nuts, then please feel free not to participate as opposed to lobbying for the removal of opinions, posts, and forums. Perhaps you can find a political forum in which everyone agrees with you (if that sounds like fun to you).

In the meantime, the majority of people who participate in this area of BP actually like debating with people who disagree with them. Whining hasn't come into play until you arrived. Not sure how many more clues are needed. We're trying to be respectful of Josh's time, I ask that you do the same, as well.

Thanks Jon, you are correct. I should have clarified...in order to refrain from putting in a new subfloor and deal with glue and such...I used the floating CVT. It comes in 1x3 foot sections and overlap each other with pre-glued "lips". I did the cost comparison, and because I do my own install I saved a days worth of time going this route.

So I did some research on this product, VCT. Says it's water resistant...so I submurged a piece of it in water for 2 days. Pulled it out, and it looked and felt like new still! I would say waterproof, instead. Costs about $2/square foot. A little pricey for my rentals, but I don't have to worry about a new subflor (I have wood floors in all my rentals), screws, glue, etc. The guy at home depot said that they put some of it in their doorway during the entire summer. After 3 months of traffic, it showed no signs of wear. I'm fairly confident that this product will hold up well. I'm installing it in the kitchen/bathrooms on my latest rental. I'll keep everyone updated!
