Post: Reverse Mortgage buy from bank

Jeremy you might need a different attorney or I might not understand reverse mortgages.  Since your gma is no longer living in the house, she had 6 months and the bank takes possession.  they will offer your family to buy the house at market value or they will sit on it and eventually auction it off.  If the sale nets more than the reverse mortgage amount, your gma will get a check.  Medicaid will garnish that money to help pay the assisted living fees. I dont think they can do that in the unfortunate event of your gma passing before the house is sold, but Im not 100% on that.  Good luck in any case.

@Connor Lewis

Is your duplex an up/down or side-by-side? I have a up/down in a c neighborhood with the same question. I'm considering lvp with noise deadening underlayment since carpet is gross, but I'm worried about noise. Would you mind letting us know how things go after you've placed it?

Ok why is Milwaukee rent down? I tried googling to see if anyone had an explanation, but all the news articles say rents are up, supply is down, market is super tight for rentals. Which is it?

Eventually I want a rental in Milwaukee, if I ever get a house there but it's a little disheartening to see rents down...

haven't used this much because my market is too small for it to be accurate, but it was interesting.

So when I started renting out my properties, I used Cozy.  I loved it.

It was free to tenants, which is important to me.

They had an application which was free to me and gave me an actual credit score, which is in my criteria for tenants.  The application also had a multi-state background check.

I could see if they tenant paid with bank account withdrawal or credit card.  I want the ability to not accept credit card payments.

I liked the automatic payment option, as it gave me confidence that rent was going to be paid, although few of my tenants actually used it.

Now of course cozy is gone and I've been using apartments.com.  I don't love it.  The application doesn’t give me the information I need to check my criteria.  They allow credit card payments and don't give me the choice to not allow that.  Why is that important?   I've heard recently that some less than honest tenants are using chargebacks to get their rent money back, up to 90 days after paying it.  The money is then "clawed-back" from your account with little recourse.  Obviously i don't want that.

Avail, turbotenant, rentreadi, doorloop don’t meet my needs as described above.  Are there any others out there?

Have you had issues with chargebacks for rent?  Am i worrying about this unnecessarily?

Quote from @Tyler Haanen:

@Rebecca E. I have my final walkthrough this weekend and close on Monday. I plan on self managing since I'll be owner occupying. I'll let you know if I see something interesting near that location. I am always looking at the MLS. Any reason why that area if you don't mind me asking?

 Good luck on closing on Monday!  So exciting!

Hey Tyler...

I'm house hacking down here and I have to be near the hospital per my contract.

I've looked at a bunch of places, but the market is still so hot here!

Looking to buy a duplex in Milwaukee, three hours from where I live.  I self manage my other rentals, but they are close to home.  Does anyone have a recommendation for a property manager for a duplex, or even just a reliable handyman in the Milwaukee area?  I'm looking to buy a place around 27th and Layton +/- 15 minutes.

@Tyler Haanen  Did you close on your property?  what are you doing about property management?

@Jiebing Wang

Thanks for this post. It seems you're getting beat up by some responses but I appreciate your candidness. It's hard to remain impartial and unemotional on the face of someone yelling at you.

You got this!
