I’m not quite sure where to post this so please direct me elsewhere if need be. My wife and I own a multi unit building in Chicago and are in need of building maintenance for the roof and siding.

The main issue is our building is close to the neighbor’s house. There are a few holes under where the top of the wall meets where pitched roof ends. It’s important to have this job done ASAP so no raccoons or rodents can get in. I can provide pictures and speak on the phone to clarify the job if needed. Thanks

I was hoping to fix this issue myself but I don't know where to start. Pictured is my basement drain overflowing with water - it only happens when the washer machine is draining into the sink. I have no problem when I run the water in the sink by itself. I've owned my place and washer (new) for about a year and a half without an issue. I have no idea what the solution is. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to BP renewbie! Where is your resort rental at Russell?

The properly will be located inside the city of Chicago if that adds to the equation for bankers.

Currently these are my options for my first property, which will hopefully be a multifamily property. I've had two friends use mortgage brokers and liked the experience but what is your take on either?

Do you prefer one over the other? Has anyone used both options?

Right now I've got an appointment with two banks to interview them but I'd like to see what your experience was like. I'm assuming the experience is based upon that banker/broker's sole knowledge -- or will most institutions be alike?

@Sharad M. That sounds great. I really want to do a 2 or 3 flat as my first deal but as I haven't gotten my feet wet yet I find it hard to dive right into that. I'm also trying to convince my wife as well.

Did you use any federal programs for financing on your first deals? And what made you move to SFHs?

@Elizabeth Colegrove

What was your first deal? And what are you looking for in a deal (if you're still investing)?

If you had to do it all over again and start fresh what would you purchase?

For those who are seasoned, share your story of a first or second purchase and what went right or wrong. Would you have done anything differently?

Thank you @Timothy Riley ! The wedding was great but the honeymoon was even better :)

I know my landlord kept the rent of my next door neighbor when he moved out this year, and with the raising of rent for his and my unit I'm skeptical of his financial well-being. There are also other instances of shady activity I've seen from him that cause me to judge his intentions, so I'm now naturally on guard.

I included "with notice" just to clarify if anyone had questions of whether he showed up in an unlawful manner. In that case he gave me 24hours notice, which I've read elsewhere it's 48hours in Chicago. I could be wrong because my new lease states a 24 hour notice.
