@Denise Gallardo no worries! Best of luck to you and hopefully we’ll meet sometime at some of these Houston events!

Hi @Denise Gallardo!  Have you checked out the Events section under Network, yet? You can search by city, state to see what's happening near you. There were quite a few events listed earlier in the month, as of right now, I only see two. However, one of the events this Wednesday, listed under events, seems like a good one: "How to Talk To Sellers". Also, the Meetup app is pretty good, as well, to see other groups in Houston and their events. Hope this helps!

@Wally Martinez have you attended any networking events yet? I would think there would be enough Wholesalers to give some insights... are you on Instagram? There are quite a few investors on there, I follow one in particular, D.J. Her IG name is: rehabinhighheels, she’s actually doing a “What to look for when Wholesaling” bus tour this Saturday.

As a newbie here, I've been thinking long and hard about starting my journey into REI by starting out with Wholesaling. My main reason is to build up some capital this way and to also, hopefully build up some confidence in dealing with sellers and buyers. My concern, though, is it seems like Wholesalers get a bad rap, and I do NOT want to be lumped in the "shady Wholesaler" category. So, my questions to all of you, who have dealt first hand with Wholesalers, are listed below. Please feel free to advise on things that, as a newbie, I wouldn't even know to ask at this point, too!

  1. What do you wish Wholesalers did more of before presenting a deal to you?
  2. What has a Wholesaler done in the past that wowed you and showed you they went above and beyond?
  3. What mistakes have Wholesalers made in the past w, that cost you money or could have ruined a deal for you or just plain turned you off from Wholesalers?

I appreciate all your candid advice and look forward to reading what you have to say! Thanks Everyone!

@Taylor Gaspard So far I've read David Green's book on the BRRRR strategy. Obv, like most others, I've read Rich Dad Poor Dad, but I've also read Cashflow Quadrant and I'm currently reading Rich Dad's Guide to Investing AND J.Scotts: The Book on Estimating Rehab Costs (yes, I'm reading both at the same time, lol). I myself, am trying to absorb as much info and educate myself as much as possible, but my current plan is to learn and get started with Wholesaling to get my feet wet and then go from there (adjust the plan accordingly) because I'd ultimately like to get into syndication deals. Hopefully we'll meet at some events, I will definitely download the Meetup app so I don't miss any networking opportunities!

@Taylor Gaspard Welcome! I'm a newbie in Houston, too! Although my commute isn't as long as yours, I'm binge-listening to podcasts on my to and from work and through-out the workday. I've also been reading SO many books, but I'm a bookworm anyway. Have you already attended any local REI events, yet? I'm hoping to get out and attend some soon!

Seth, welcome! You'll learn so much here, with all the podcasts and webinars, and books. Personally, I'm a newbie as well, but I just read David Green's book on the BRRRR strategy, and I feel it's worth it to read; tons of information for someone looking into having rentals. Also, networking with local agents, pm's, lenders, etc. can only help you learn the Austin market and or learn who knows the market. There are lots of folks on here who are super helpful! I wish you success on your journey!
