My family use to own a multiple location medical DME company that we sold to a large hospital system awhile back and have been real estate investors since. Currently we are looking at the large number of baby boomers and older population who want to stay in their own home or move to another single family home instead of an assisted living facility and so on down the road. We have looked into building and outfitting homes with a Universal Design Aspect (wider doorways, stepless entry/showers, grab bars) all of which can be very aesthetically appealing to the eyes now days with the new manufacturers available. What I am getting at is do others see a need for this? Thanks!

Joffrey Long the first car was a 97' Lexus ES 300 with 130K miles on it and then was fortunate enough to have already have my sports car at such a young age of 19 and purchased a new Mercedes CLK 350. After a few years I realized that I'd rather be saving my large car payment and put it into my investments. So, I sold the Mercedes and paid cash for a 07' Buick Lacrosse and having no car payment has given me more to invest as well as to travel currently. I would rather be the millionaire next door currently at the age of 23, than the guy who has to fake it and can never leave the rat race.
Joshua Dorkin it really is a shame. I view real estate as more than just brick and mortar. To see others destroy as if you will "art" really is upsetting. But on the positive note one day these properties will be available at great prices for investors like us to come in and give it a new lease on life!
Today I just got back from looking at apartment and townhome rentals in DeKalb, IL. A friend of mine is attending Grad School there and was looking at 2 and 3 bedroom places. The reason I am writing this is to say that from what I have seen I am disgusted at the property management companies and landlords. The properties were absolutely filthy on the inside and the outside had roofs that looked as if they hadn't been replaced in 50 years. Being a landlord and property manager albeit my company is strictly commercial (retail and office space currently) when a tenant has an issue we respond immediately with a solution and as well we value our properties and keep them in immaculate shape. Appearance is EVERTHING and really leaves a lasting impression upon potential renters as well as the community as a whole. If you are a property manager or Landlord keeps your properties manicured and cleaned as if you yourself lived in then.

Great to hear others thoughts and hopefully more to come Ryan Rutledge I really love the south and the growth potential, currently we are in the Greater St. Louis area and see a large upside in the works over the coming years. Areas such as Kirkwood, Mo and others are extremely hot right now and from our research will continue to grow. Our bread and butter is Commercial Properties (Retail and Multifamily), but in the near future would like to look outside of the Midwest for other investments.
