Sounds good. Were people thinking a forum / chat here, a Zoom, an in person meet up? (I know in person may not be that easy for Tiffany).

Here are things I'm currently researching:

-AirBnB rules in London generally as well as specific block of flat AirBnB rules

-Do blocks of flats have the same complex dynamics like condo associations in the US (e.g. harder to get mortgages if a certain percent of the building is rented out as opposed to owner occupied)

-Are flats above shops really such bad investments?

-How hard is it in practice to get permission from the freeholder to do an extension to a flat

-Auction documents reviewing/legal advice

(I already know the part of London I'm targeting and have worked out the US/UK tax impact of buy to let)

@Jennifer S. thanks for the invite. Happy to be part of this group.

Cool. London or outside London?

I’m focusing on London, Birmingham and Manchester. Nowadays, the majority of my activity is Birmingham based. But I’m pretty familiar with London.

Quote from @Simon Ashbaugh:

Curious about UK rent control laws. Do they have them? What other laws make it easier/harder to landlord there?

There are relatively no rent control laws in the private sector. For social / public housing yes there are rent control rules.

The laws are similar to the more regulated housing markets in the USA. Such as New York or CA.

I have decent knowledge of the  UK market especially south east. Should you need any further info contact me.

My group is interested in potentially investing in Eastleigh / Southampton. Do you have any knowledge or good info in those markets?

Thanks so much!

Curious why you are interested in that particular location?

We have six funds we have done and have raised money through each one happy to answer questions. If you go this route the first thing that pops in my head is if your investing overseas the taxes and potential laws of that country may govern.

Thanks for replying Chris.

It would be great to connect. The properties will be in England, United Kingdom. The law of ownership is similar to the US. The UK taxes will be applied to income from rentals, but the US have a double tax treaty with the UK so the taxes are favorable.

I know US investors who have invested in Canada and vice versa. I thought I would explore a US/UK real estate syndication.
