Hey John Hayes welcome to BP! I'm looking to get into flipping as well, but don't have the experience yet, or income. I am an agent for Douglas Elliman Real Estate though, so maybe we can help each other out. Maybe a little mentoring and I can help you find some deals through the MLS and all.

Hey everyone,
Just starting out in a tough market in Long Island, New York and after reading tons of posts, listening to podcasts and getting my real estate license, I think i'm suffering from analysis paralysis on what my first investment should be as a home flipper. I know finding a niche is important in the REI world and id love to become a full time flipper, but I need some suggestions from all the great minds here on BP.

So my real question is, what kind of property should I be looking into for my first flip?? A short sale, A foreclosure or just a good ole fixer upper??? Long Island is flooded with short sales and foreclosures but I tend to hear some horror stories about both.

Im open to suggestions so tell me which one you all would look into first and why. Thanks in advance everyone!

Hey Brandon Turner, thanks for the warm welcome! Sorry for the late response. I've been reading a bunch of articles on the site and since I joined, I've began the process of getting my real estate license. Didnt want to fall into analysis paralysis so I decided to dive right in. Thanks for all the help! all your posts are incredible and I love everything you do for the biggerpockets community. Thanks again!

Hey Mehran! Thanks for the welcome!

I wouldn't mind getting into flipping as well as having a rental property or 2. Haven't decided where to start yet. My father and I have spoke about this, and your right, He is a great resource. He's not an agent or anything just an old school landlord and works with a few agents to find tenants and renters. I'll continue to pick his brain along with others on this site. Thanks again for the welcome!

Hey everyone out there!
My names Peter Filakouris and I just ran across the site recently and I'm glad that I did. Real estate has always interested me but it hasn't been my primary focus until recently (like a week ago recently) My father has always had a few rental properties and a multi family building. I just figured real estate is something that I enjoy and can really see myself being involved with in the future. I am decently handy and pretty good with numbers, but I also have a huge family who all have their own businesses. From plumbers to painters to contractors which could come in hand down the line. For now I'm just reading a bunchhh of books recommended by everyone and posts on the forums. Trying to decide where to start really. Maybe get my real estate license first and then dive into my first flip perhaps? Thoughts?

I really look forward to being apart of such an amazing community that you all have going on here. Not only is it informational, but it's very inspirational as well. I can't wait to get started.
