Post: Best Real Estate License Course in NY

I understand that having a real estate license isn't essential to real estate investing, however I do want to get at least a year or two (maybe more) under my belt and truly learn the ins and outs of the industry before investing in my first property. That being said I've done research and came across many different online and in person courses that are offered and was wondering what agency you went through and if you would recommend the same or a different agency?

I'm currently leaning towards Baruch College's real estate licensing program.

@Paul Winka

Thank you for that reply, I've heard of the MLS but in the podcasts I've listened to they never mentioned how to access it or even the pre requisites of accessing it.

Now the next question I would have then is with there being 5 different real estate license courses on Groupon, a couple more through agencies and at colleges how can I filter through the bad and choose a course that's good? And regardless of the course, are all these "certification" the same?

I'm sure one day I'll look at this post and laugh at my ignorance, but as of now I need your guy's help.

The only source of "accurate" information on real estate properties I've used is Zillow. I've seen too many properties that are under priced for the location and once I speak with the owner directly, the monthly mortgage is a few hundred dollars higher etc, etc.

What are the most reliable and accurate mass databases for on sale properties?

Thank you everyone!

Real estate is something that I've always been interested in and wanted to get into. However because there are a lot of elements within the industry the farthest step I took was picking up a book titled "Buy it, Rent it, Profit." Although informational, the main question I had was never answered; how to purchase a property with little to no money. It was recently that a colleague recommended me this podcast and since then I've been a frequent listener during my commutes.

I'm as ground level as it gets when it comes to real estate so I look forward to reading many of your guy's advice, tips and tricks within this industry and eventually become competent like many of you today.
