@Tatyana Shevnina It definitely is a great place for our friends and family to come escape the crowds and some of the heat in the Bay Area or Santa Cruz. I have heard about that book; now I will add it to my list thank you!

@Mark Nolan Thank you for the tip! I've been getting a ton of info and inspiration from the podcasts. I am able to listen while I commute and sometimes at work too and am finding it very helpful.

@Ryan Landis Great to meet another local! I will check out 10x. I'm only on about episode 40 but I am chugging along.

Living in the Santa Cruz mountains in this old house is definitely teaching me a lot. I grew in a typical suburban house in Southern California; never learned about septic systems, grease traps, water pumps etc.

Thank you for the PM! I definitely want to know what the license can do for me. I like my full time job, but I do want to know how I an utilize the license on the side.

@Nick Garzini Sounds like we have some things in common! I'm brand new here as well. I live in your general area; hopefully I'll get to meet you at one of the local meetups.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

@Nick Fogler I would love to come to a local event. I saw one in San Jose next week. Are the ever events closer to home?

@Brian C. Thank you for the recommendation and also the encouragement! I will add 'A Fortunate at your Feet' to my list.

@Sterling White Absolutely! My long term goal is to build financial freedom for myself and my family. I imagine like many people, I want to work towards growing passive income so I can focus on family and friends.

From BiggerPockets, I want to learn more about my parents business from an outside prospective. I want to learn about my options for starting out with a limited amount of savings while having a job,

In my home market, learning how to find and secure deals is very valuable given the limited inventory.

Hi I'm Peter, 30 from the Santa Cruz area in California. I found the site about a month ago, and have been listening to the podcast ever since. (thank you guys for that, by the way!)

So far I have been doing my best to absorb all the different strategies people trying and using with real estate. My first interest in real estate was initiated by my parents, who have owned some medium sized apartment buildings in Orange County. I feel very lucky to have them available as a resource for asking questions and getting advice!

My second experience comes from the small single family that they helped me purchase in 2010 in the rural area between Santa Cruz and the San Francisco Bay Area. We have been living in it as we upgrade it, build equity, and save up cash for our next investment. It is a funky old cabin built in 1922 with many interesting peculiarities.

Lately I've been reading a lot on the forum, as well as reading (and listening to) real estate and business books. The first real estate book I ever read was Nickerson's How I turned 1000 into a Million (it was an old version from my dad). Most recently I've read The E Myth Revisited, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Outliers, David and Goliath, and the 4 Hour Work Week. Id love to hear about more books! In particular, I am also looking for audiobooks that are narrated by the author of the book.

I just enrolled in the basic online courses required to get my California RE Saleperson's License. I don't intend to work as an agent for a local brokerage at this point in time; I'd like the tools and networking opportunities more easily available to agents. The classes are cheap online from my a community college in my area. Unless the classes are terrible, I will take all the real estate classes they offer.

Please let me know what I forgot to include; thank you all again for this awesome resource!
