"How I Built This" is a great podcast. I find it both useful and interesting. I particularly loved the old story about Goodreads, back from 2022.

I use Chat GPT to help me practice Spanish since I found a video about it on YouTube. And sometimes when I get stuck while writing an email I look for inspiration there.

"Living off rentals will take a long, long time for the average REI. 15-20 years, probably. You'll need 7-10 quality doors.

Going the full scale--- lower barrier to entry, lots of doors, etc. You got to remember the more houses, the more capex, the more tenants. Bad areas then you're talking bad tenants. So on paper, sure, you'll get there maybe in 8-10 years but reality will hit. You'll get higher turnover, more damage to the properties, higher vacancies."

It is good to hear a realistic scenario even if it's not from an optimistic perspective. Actually, especially if it isn't.

I agree, STR/MTR is probably a way to go here

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, seems like I'll subscribe to a DMS app with a free trial. A friend of mine works as an accountant and they've been trying out dozens of PDF-editing software to speed up the office work, so I'll just borrow a page from their book. I was mostly asking about which one to pick, as there are so many apps focusing on hard copy file management with glowing reviews - and with similar price ranges to boot. For instance, this list mentions ClickUp, PandaDoc, Wrike, etc., this article points to DocuWare, FileCenter, NetDocuments and a few others, another article describes a handful of others, plus most of them mention MS SharePoint, which is a definite overkill for what I need...

So, seems like being spoiled for choice is not always the best thing :) I suppose I'll shortlist the ones that offer a free trial and see which one I have the easiest time with

Hey all!

As the title says, I'm looking for a fast way to archive old paper files. My storage room is brimming with boxes of all shapes and sizes, some filled with student books, some with family photos, others with office documents my dad has brought over, etc.

I want to handpick which ones need saving still, and then, I want to digitize those to preserve them better. We actually have a scanner in the house, so this will be a good exercise for it. But I don't know which app to install to help me with this, I know some programs can speed up PDF organization-related tasks, but I've never used one myself.

So, does anyone have recommendations for an app with built-in optical character recognition, logical UI, and easy-to-learn functions? I'd prefer something with a free trial as well, I'm hoping to get this done over a single weekend, but we'll see...

Thanks!

Awesome post! Exactly the type that new members like myself would absorb like sponges!

Many, many thanks for sharing this!

I'm yet to try meditation, but I do try to follow the rule of doing some sort of cardio exercise at least four times a week. Aside from the wellness aspect, I find those 30-45 minutes-long sessions to be helpfully introspective and stress-shedding too. So, I'd say everyone should make a habit of working out from to time, I don't see how it wouldn't benefit them regardless of profession

Greetings from another new member! Looking forward to learning and connecting with smart people on this forum! Cheers!

I doubt he can "force" you to pay for something. especially when it's possible for him to change all parts of the fence but the part that "merges" with your property. Still, taking that route might get you on bad terms with a person you'll potentially see a lot of in the future, though you know best to which level the awkwardness could rise if you keep on refusing his plea...
