Post: Where are the Canadians of BP?

Hey Everyone,

It seems like BP is dominated by US investors, which is great, but I'm wondering where are all of my Canadian friends? The concepts of investing in real estate are the same, but mortgage and tax laws can be quite different between the two countries. It would be nice to connect with Canadians and see how they are succeeding in the Canadian marketplace.

It would be a good opportunity to share information about preferred markets and discuss market fundamentals in those areas.

I'll start.

I have 2 rental condos in Ottawa, Ontario. I have lived there for 10 years and know the area quite well. Some pretty big things are happening in Ottawa right now. I'm also looking at the East Coast of Canada where I grew up. The cost of homes are much more reasonable there and can lead to good ROIs.

Your turn!

Welcome to BP, @Ron Deysher . It's a great forum, you're in the right place to get started. Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you don't know the answer, chances are there are 100+ others in here who don't know the answer either.

Thanks, @Michael Cutting . It takes some time to get the system and the people aligned, but it's definitely worth it and attracts investors much easier. I have read The 4HWW and I follow Tim's blog posts often. He does great things and that book is a wealth of information for earning a good living while living a great life. Many life hacks in that book! PS. I sent you a connect request and a private message as well.

Thanks for reaching out, @Chad U. . It's nice to meet people in similar situations. You're probably a lot closer to the pool life than you think. I traded/sacrificed a lot to get here, but I wouldn't do it any differently again.....actually, that's wrong. I would do it much faster and earlier in my life if I could! Where did you get your information for cross-border investing and who are the key members of your investment team to make that work for you?

I've had the same lack of response @John Van Uytven for mortgage brokers and lawyers. I don't understand it. I am a small business owner myself, and if someone reached out to me and said "I want your product/service, please contact me", I would respond the second I saw the request. Who wouldn't?!

@Jeff Berry who are the types of people you want to attract? Are you happy to connect with anyone who has similar interests, or are you specifically looking for a group of people with particular expertise or experience?

Completely agree with what @Account Closed said. I'm surprised at the number of "good luck" posts. There are many people who have a net worth of 100+ million. They can't all be "lucky". It probably won't happen overnight, but I can definitely see many 20-30 year success stories.

If you break down some rough numbers, it's 50 multi-unit, 2 million dollar properties that get paid off in 20-30 years....assuming 0% appreciation (not likely). I think you could probably get away with 25 of those properties in good areas, maybe less. That's just if you stick with residential real estate, but by that point, commercial real estate will likely, inevitably, enter into the portfolio. You may not be able to acquire your first multi-million dollar property for a few years, but real estate can snowball VERY quickly once properties start to get paid off.

The more I talk about this and think about it, the more you have me believing this is much more possible for myself. Maybe we should connect, @Alex Silang ?

Hey everyone,

I've read countless books, magazines, articles, attended seminars and webinars on every aspect of real estate investing. I recently acquired a mentor to help me put all of this knowledge into (further) action. I found this forum and thought it would be a great place to network. Everyone accomplishes more together. Have you found this to be the case in this forum?

I have 2 rental properties in Ontario that are partly self managed. I'm actively looking to grow my portfolio for my partners and I.

Fun fact: I recently quit my Federal Government job that most people would die for and moved to Turks and Caicos to live in a condo on the beach....where most people would die to live.

What I do: I run 3 businesses remotely from my condo and spend many hours by the pool or at one of the top ranked beaches in the world. I am not telling you this to show off, I just want people to realize that it's not as difficult as most people think to live out their dreams.

Looking forward to connect with ALL of you. We can all learn something from each other.

Mark
