Post: Contractors don't complete their job!!!

Hi BP members,

It has been very frustrating working with my current contractors.  I am doing drywall, sheetrock, ceiling, build the wall, electrical wiring, sanding floor for the entire 2nd floor along with other jobs on the 1st and 3rd floor.  They kept delaying the job.  There are always excuses postponing the work and not meeting the deadline. I am always chasing them and they really lack of responses.  Should I just fire them or is there anyway to make them willing to finish by a certain date?  If I fire them and start looking for new contractors, it will cost more money and the completing date will be even pushed further.

Does anyone have a reliable contractor recommendation for New Haven CT area? Some of the contractors I called from HomeAdvisor.com all booked out till October even November...

Thank you!

Demolition panels, building the walls, insulation, electrical outlets, move the gas line, install tankless water heater, build awning, along with other things to fix the house.

I would think seller wanted to close as soon as possible.  It is the contractor/plumber who caused this delay. They should have been more on schedule.  The RE agent said that we could close and money to pay contractors to be held in escrow until work is completed after the closing. Should I go what the RE agent suggested?  I am not sure if that is a good idea. What if the contractor comes back and wanted to charge higher amount after closing? What if the bank doesn't like the reno is not completed before closing?

@Tyler Libby the house is livable. Contractor is changing a brand new heating unit (forced air).

Dear BP members - My house is closing in one week but the Seller-paid contractor renovation possibly won't finish by the closing date. What should I do? The RE agent said that "we could close(change heating units) and money to pay contractors to be held in escrow until work is completed. Attorney should hold the agreed amount until work is completed and then release it to contractors when they finish."  Question: would that be potentially a problem? What if the mortgage bank don't like that idea? Should I postpone the closing date till they complete the work? Please advise. Thank you!
