Post: Renting a Dumpster? beware of this company..

Hey there! I've made it my mission to share my experience with as many real estate investors, home improvement contractors, and homeowners in the Greater Pittsburgh area as possible.

I wanted to give you a heads-up about my experience with Affordable Dumpster Rental. They charged me around $1,400 for a 30-yard dumpster with 6 tons of waste, but I found other companies, like Steel City Hauling, that charge less than half of that.

When I called Affordable Dumpster Rental to complain, they threatened to send my debt to collection. Here's how they work: they advertise a low initial cost of $499 for a 30-yard dumpster, but in the fine print, it says you'll pay extra for any weight over 3000 pounds.

As a first-time home renovator, I assumed the 3000 pounds would be more than enough and ended up paying a lot more than I expected. So, I want to caution you to read all the details carefully.

Before renting a dumpster, it's important to check the weight limitations and duration before you commit to any rental company:

1. For a 30-yard dumpster, make sure it includes at least 6 tons of waste in the price, and ask about the cost for extra weight (around $90 for every additional ton is reasonable).

2. Ensure you have at least 10 days to fill the dumpster before pickup (and check the cost for every extra day, which should be around $15/day).

Before finalizing the rental agreement, be sure to go through all the details, especially those related to payment.

Best of luck with your project!

Quote from @Tracy Rodgers:

I would STAY AWAY from them. I should have done more research and paid attention to the other comments. After 3 weeks of receiving the appraisal (2 month total process), I got a text from Harold (Insula Rep) that they will decline to lend. Since they wouldn't answer my call, I texted back why and the response was "economics didn't work." My intention was to refinance and fully renovate a duplex that was appraised at $740K. I was looking to payoff the underlying loan of $156K, and add construction hold-back of $250K. Thus, at a 55% LTV, the economics don't work. And the fact I got a text instead of a call with no further explanation. Therefore, I would NOT recommend them!!

What happened with your experience with Insula? I’m currently in the process of refinance with Lori Davis from Insula… appraisal was done this morning…

@L Moore - did you close on a loan with Insula?
