I want to know the answer to this as well.  My first question is, does the husband have deed to the property?  I suspect the IRS attaches to the property, but if there is no deed, how can it?  Maybe there is a deed in a life-estate.

Depending on the deed restrictions in your area, you could also put in a quality septic system and rent for mobile homes or an RV park.

If you don't want to pay for a title search, you can look through the county records.  I usually issue a google search "Official Public Records XXX County" and I can search on the  owners name.  It won't catch everything, but liens will show up.

Vacant properties in Cook County (Or it may be just in Chicago) have to be registered with the building department.  That may be a first step.

Yes, I'm really excited about this.  It's so funny that I was talking on the phone with one of the competitors just 2 days prior about having a guru challenge, and them Tom Tarrant just thought it up.  Talk about the law of attraction!
