Thanks for the advice @Jerry Padilla. I will most likely stick to a smaller property so I am able to afford the down-payment in a decent area. And thanks @Sue Kelly, I will have to learn more about HUD. I think a MFH is my best bet to live rent free while obtaining my first piece of property, but maybe it isn't the smartest option in an area with such an expensive housing market. Hoping to learn a lot from those of you who have been there and done that.

Hello everyone. My name is Nick Thomas and I'm an elementary school teacher living in Greenville, NC. I will be moving to Woodbridge, VA in June. Thanks already for all the knowledge I've already begun taking in from all the members here. I am looking to build connections and learn all I can. I believe my first investment is going to be a duplex using FHA. Just trying to start young since I know my field doesn't really produce financial freedom. Any tips on starting out would be greatly appreciated!
