hi, the LVP is luxury vinyl plank, but I guess what you are saying is not to use grey next to the hardwood floor of this color?

Hi guys,

Need to choose a color for the LVP.

There is this grey color by mohawk that I like, but I have hardwood floors in the kitchen and I am not a designer nor do I have any sense of what may be trendy or considered tacky these days lol. So I am asking for your opinion.

This home may be sold, rented or I may live in it as a primary residence. Still undecided on that.

The vinyl will go in the living room, hallways and bedrooms.

Color paint for the walls would be the popular agreeable gray from sherwin williams (light gray).

Does this grey LVP look terrible, ok, good, great next to the Kitchen hardwood? :)

Thanks

P.S: By the way, the kitchen and living room are separated by a wall, so the LVP and hardwoords are only side by side on a 40 inch wide "door size" short corridor.

I have a flooring store in Brewerton, NY and we sell a ton of it. The key is the clicking system. The glue tabs Depot have do not stay together. If u buy a thinner Lvt u need to loctite the but seams together or they will unclick. It’s almost guaranteed. The best stuff I have is Fusion which is a wpc product or Mohawks high end Lvt . No problems with either of these. The loctite I use is g-2. The other key to these floors is the cheaper ones will be effected by direct sunlight. The vinyl will actually roll in middle due to heat. I almost never install laminate due to easy damage from water. Hope this helps and try to buy this in bulk, if u do more houses than one as it will save u money.

Gerald, is 4.2mm considered thin to you. This is the mm for the home depot brand that locks together and some complained about coming apart. I also read about the sunlight issue.  Is there something to look for when choosing a floor that does not fade with some light exposure to sun?

I laid the glue strip type once.   I did not like it.  If you get it misaligned during install, it's hard to undo it.  And, I'd be afraid to use in the kitchen or bath.  if you go with click lock, you can use it though out the house.   The only issue I've had is sometimes tapping too hard with a soft mallet on the ends and bulging it a bit.  It's not visible, but you can feel it.  After learning to use a more deft touch, that's not an issue anymore.

Excellent! Thanks for replying. I wonder if there are any online discounts like for example lowes you can find online 10% discounts. Are you getting any discounts from Home depot or paying full price?

We use exclusively the click lock Home depot flooring.  We use the same color in every house.  This is it.

It looks really great with repose gray walls and bright white trim.   I had a piece of it and a piece of laminate in the back of my truck for over 6 months, the vinyl looked brand new, the laminate was in pretty bad shape.  Scratched and swollen from the rain.

 Thanks!!

I was reading reviews on this type with the click lock and some had issues with the locking mechanism giving and some planks lifting after it was installed. Or that they got defective or hard to lock planks that made it very difficult to install. In your experience have you had any issues, and why would you choose this mechanism over the glued one they sell the Allure, due to the click lock being waterproof?

I have seen that LVT or luxury vinyl planks are being heavily promoted over regular Floating/laminate flooring.

Home depot has their own brand and also have a type that has glue strips to stick it together and another type with just an interlocking mechanism that they say it is water proof vs water resistant.

If you have a preference when choosing the home depot choices (glue vs interlocking) which one do you recommend.

And do you feel the LVT is superior to laminate ?

Need to make this purchase this week so thanks for your suggestions.

Thanks Sean, if you are going to spend a few thousand there, do you usually get a discount or something along the lines? With lowes, for example I can find 10% off coupons and such.

Any other suggestions or Home depot is cheaper than lowes and better products ?

Hello,

I need to do some remodeling to a home and since it is the first time I am buying these materials I wanted to know if there is a better way to buy (cheaper) than just going through Home Depot or Lowes.

I need to do floors and buy at least 1ksqft of Luxury Vinyl Tile and another 1k sqft of Carpet. (I hear that LVT is all the rage these days, but not sure if there is one that is preferred vs another one like glued vs snap together?)

Also need double pane insulated windows to go into existing wood frame. Home depot has them for like 100 bucks, not sure this can be beat, but I need at least 10.

Need also to buy kitchen counter and bathroom sinks x 2.

If you have any suggestions for alternatives to the big stores or if the big stores actually have the better prices and products, please let me know to help me narrow this down a little.

Thanks a lot!

I got a quote with Nationwide who has my homeowners.

They are selling me a landlord insurance for $580.

This insurance covers the Dwelling for $135k, Extended coverage (not sure what that includes) and vandalism and mischief. Deductible is $1000

I did not want personal property coverage since the appliances I am leaving do not cost more than $1000 combined, but even with that it was going to be $630. Still a lot cheaper than homeowners.

This sounds like really good price when my homeowner's policy is $800 a year. I was expecting it for be a lot more since that's what many articles claimed landlord's policy to be at least 20% more than homeowners policy, so I wonder If I am missing some essential coverage that should be included and that is why is not more expensive than my homeowners?

Nationwide stated this is all the coverages they offer for this type of policy.

Thanks for the heads up..
