I suppose I can not speak for all states, but in WI when a person squats, they establish tenancy.

I dunno. I just can't get behind the cops bashing down a door with guns drawn to get out a tenant. Seems to me there are plenty of other options to try before going to such extremes.

I'll bet starving her out would work. So would tear gas. Instead of bashing the door in and rushing in with guns drawn, perhaps simply removing the door.

I wonder if the cop who shot her dead feels good about it? Good about being a cop? Protecting and serving and all that?

I am not anti-police. I am against police that play seek and destroy instead of serve and protect.

As far as the majority opinion, by your logic of being in the minority, let me ask this question - if the majority of people vote and decide rape is ok, is it then ok?

A community that loses it's moral compass is doomed to an ugly community.

I presented two alternate solutions in my post.

I'd say when people simply pretend to be listening but really are not, it makes it tough to come to a consensus solution.

I think attempting to shove the square block through the round circle is a bad strategy.

Yea...except while the bodies of human beings always mature into adult form, the minds sometimes do not. I think there are plenty of children making all sorts of decisions all the time.

Benjamin Franklin wrote that as part of a longer satire in which he claims to be an English farmer instead of an American businessman.

You might as well quote Jonathan Swift in A Modest Proposal.

“I have already computed the charge of nursing a beggar’s child ... to be about two shillings per annum, rags included; and I believe no gentleman would repine to give ten shillings for the carcass of a good fat child, which, as I have said, will make four dishes of excellent nutritive meat."

Here's a quote from a person who really did believe something like what you say Franklin believed.

"I perceived very clearly that the aim of all social activity must never be merely charitable relief, which is ridiculous and useless, but it must rather be a means to find a way of eliminating the fundamental deficiencies in our economic and
cultural life--deficiencies which necessarily bring about the degradation of the individual or at least lead him towards such
degradation."

-- Adolf Hitler

And here are two more quotes:

“Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well- warmed, and well-fed.”

-- Herman Melville

"Let your heart feel for the afflictions and distress of everyone, and so let your hand give in proportion to your purse.”

-- George Washington

Speaking of famous American farmers. Here's a fun quote from a super-smarty-pants and equally impressive bad-*** killer.

"Liberty can be just as easily trampled by 3000 representatives as it can by a single tyrant" - Benjamin Martin

Here's another quote from a little known but fairly insightful, perhaps a bit self-righteous, modern day philosopher.

"I see no moral deficiency in one man refusing to provide survival to another man when the other man is not willing to provide it for himself." - TC Maillaw - I think he's French.

In my opinion, the moratorium is a horrible response. It will likely, certainly has all the potential to, produce more suffering than it attempts to avoid.

You can't put a virus back in the bottle once it's let loose. The CDC, of all organizations, knows that.

People are getting evicted because the CDC told them to stop going to work. The CDC told businesses to close and send people home. Somehow we are supposed to believe they actually care about people becoming homeless. Hmm...It's difficult to believe they care about people becoming homeless because well, they are main cause of people becoming homeless.

Meanwhile, the CDC told/is telling people to wear masks when they are fully aware that cloth and paper masks are not capable of stopping the virus particle. Even the N-95, which is superior in protection to cloth or paper, is not capable of stopping a virus particle. Each are capable of stopping some particles, but the truth is the number of particles they stop are much, much fewer than those they do not stop. This is simply because the holes in the masks are larger than the size of the virus particle. Think of a metal strainer used for cooking food. Or maybe visualize a single hose being used to put out a forest fire. It would not be very good advice if the authorities told people the single hose would protect them so don't bother to evacuate. Heck, I'd say that advice would be down right reckless, deadly, and I dunno, maybe criminal.

The point is this, the CDC is giving us deadly advice when it comes to the masks, and somehow we trust them to make the decision on a rent moratorium.

But wait, it's not really the entire CDC organization is it? And many of us don't trust them. The power to impose a moratorium over the entire nations property rights has somehow been granted to a single person, the director. Perhaps the director has mistaken their job title to read dictator. Dictators lie. Dictators kill people. Dictators make bad economic decisions on purpose so that the people will have no choice but to rely on the dictator for survival. Hmm...

The term floating around is medical tyranny. Yea, I'd say that maybe about sums it up.

We shall see. Their true colors are about to be visible. Now that the vaccines are available to all at-risk populations in the country, for free even, and they will be available to the kids who are not at risk very shortly, there is no good reason to continue any of the restrictions. If the restrictions continue, it will be obvious to anyone with any spark in their brain whatsoever, that the government is not interested in getting things back to normal, but rather is working towards a power-grab over the people, and that the corruption runs deeper than any of us had dared to imagine it would.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck...it's probably a duck.

And, the sky is blue.

Reject mind control. Mind Your Mind.

I don’t want to sound snarky, but to answer your question, that’s the messed up part.

Yes, I did read the article. The article says the lady opened fire at the cops after they "breached" the door. The news story is of course using the statement from the police only, as the lady was not available for comment, and the news person was not a witness themselves. So what really happened? What does "breach" mean? What other methods of removal were attempted? What methods were even considered? According to the article, the cops knew the lady was armed, suspected she was dangerous, and cleared out the entire floor of the building. Did they use a bullhorn to announce themselves? Did they ask her nicely to come out? Or did they do what everyone knows they love to do, which is announce themselves at the door saying, "Police. Search Warrant.", a second before they use a ram to smash the door to pieces and swarm the unit with weapons drawn and tensions high. Excessive force. That's what happened here. It lead to a death. Let's say maybe they waited for the lady to come out, starved her out maybe. Turned off the power, cut the water. Would the lady have come out with her gun and then opened fire? Perhaps. We'll never know. Or if they didn't have the patience to starve her out, they could have drilled a hole in the wall/door and gased her out. Again, maybe she would have opened fire once out and maybe not, we'll never know. What we do know, is a lady that was squatting, was in her home, and strangers came busting through the door. This lady was not wanted for murder, rape or armed robbery, her crime against humanity was essentially trespassing. I suppose some people think it's ok to shoot a trespasser dead on the spot. The thing is, in this case, in the mind of the lady, the cops were the trespassers. Everyone says how horrible it was that she opened fire on trespassers, but don't seem to have a problem with the police coming into the unit and shooting a trespasser. That aint consistent justice.

The only thing I really agree with within the body of comments I've read so far is this, it was 100% avoidable.

If so, no more evictions, but no more late rent!

#Section8forall  Let's extend this exclusive club to the masses!

I don’t understand why this would be a bad thing. We could legitimately end hunger, homelessness, poverty, and solve so much despair if we just ensured that everyone had what they need to survive. A monthly allowance for every American who makes under a certain threshold—not slot just enough to potentially cover the basics—give all renters rent vouchers that ensure landlords always get paid, nationwide law that evictions can only be for a good reason like criminal activity, risks to safety, damage to the property, national right to counsel for eviction defendants, universal health care, universal college tuition, and make it easier to buy a home.

I don’t understand how anyone can be against  those things? People would still work and if anything it would make everyone’s life better. Why is it preferable to have millions sleeping on the streets, paycheck to paycheck, getting evicted when they get sick and have financial difficulty, going into crippling debt over hospital bills, and suffering like people are? Why is that better than making sure everyone gets taken care of.

Well, one reason people are against that sort of idea is because it's been tried already, and the only thing it succeeded at is failing at pretty much everything, unless creating a horrific world to live in is what you desire. I appreciate your compassion there but you could really use a few lessons in world history.

8 billion people can solve problems better than one person can solve the problems of 8 billion people. That is essentially why communism fails and free markets do not.

I'm not sure what part is more messed up. The lady squatting in the unit for a year, the cops bashing down the door and shooting her for it, or the heartless comments in this thread. Definitely not the first one.

Best part, lol, it's a "joint venture" study with China, give ya 1 guess who it says ISNT at fault in any way shape or form..... It's a great read, it really clarifies things that officially, it probably came from a bat, to something else, to a person, somewhere, most DEFINENTLY not a leak from a lab in China (I kid you not, it actually says that).

Have any of you seen the movie Idiocracy? You know, where Terry Crews is "President Komacho". Why do I feel like it's coming true.........

I watched that movie. Not the greatest flick ever or anything but I got a kick out of it.

In a similar vein, I'm a bit of a music nerd and recently watched the new 2112 video put out by the band Rush (youtube). The album/record is from the 1970's, but they recently made an animated video of it. The song 2112 is like 20 minutes long with seven parts telling the story of this guy who lives in a communist world where every thought and pleasure is created and controlled by the "priests". While the story was nothing new then and even more familiar now, the part I thought was truly visionary was where the priests talk about how their "great computers fill their hallowed halls". The Apple PC had not even come out when the record was made.

And if I'm going to just ramble on here...(yup, I am)...the story is about how this guy discovers a guitar behind a waterfall in an ancient secret and abandoned cave. He has no idea what it is, but picks it up and discovers its beauty. He immediately realizes that with this ancient "miracle", that each and every person would have the ability to create their own music, and that would bring wonderful things to the current world. So, excited as a child, he brings the guitar to the priests to show them, expecting he will be well-received and celebrated for his discovery that he knows will change the world for the better - an inalienable truth. To the mans astonishment, the priests declare they are full aware of guitars, and state that they were "another toy that helped destroy the elder race of man". The priests further state they, nor anyone, has use for such things and that the man ought think about the "average" and what use the average has for him. The guy continues to plea with the priests to consider the contributions such an instrument could bring to the world, and the priests respond by smashing the guitar to pieces.

Then the guy returns to the hidden cave beneath the waterfall. He is seriously depressed. He now has knowledge of incredible beauty, and knowledge that the beauty is deliberately being refused to the people by those he has always trusted. He falls into a dream and dreams that the elder race is not extinct, but left his world long ago and still lives and grows in the present, on other worlds. He wakes from the dream more depressed than ever, and kills himself.

Just as he has taken his own life, the elder race returns in force, and removes the priests from power.

Yup, it's a tragedy. Idiocracy has a happy ending, sort of - lol. The question I ask if anyone got this far is this - which ending is more likely to come true in our own world? The happy ending or the tragedy?

How is a person suppose to sort out the misinformation from the misinformation? When the misinformation attacks the misinformation??? Even the brightest among us scratch our heads thinking it over. And perhaps, being an idiot is the smartest play. If something takes more than a few simple sentences to explain, it's probably ********.

The moratorium is ********. The way the people have gone along with everything and lapped it up like stupid fish that snap at bait is more than just a little depressing to me.

Here's a great suggestion for a film for you - Mind Your Mind.

If you didn't enjoy that long essay well, sorry. I haven't been on BP for a long time and I guess you got the bad luck of being the guy I replied to - lol - peace.
