@Jonathan R McLaughlin - Absolutely. I've heard it referred to as simply: suburban downtowns. Essentially suburban versions of urban neighborhoods featuring retail, mixed use, residential etc, all while being walkable and likeable. The drivers you identified are on point. Smaller families means putting a premium on the quality of each space and not on the number of spaces. More purposeful and less generic seems to be desirable.
This survey will be interesting to see in its next iteration, as Covid will no doubt have influenced future decision making.
One of the more interesting findings from the article, Covid independent, was preference ( or lack there of) for environmentally friendly homes for Millennial home buyers. For all the awareness that has been placed on Climate Change during the entirety of Millennial's lives, they seem to have near the exact same preferences as every other generation when it comes to buying environmentally friendly homes and whether or not they would pay a premium for one.
@Pat L. Glad to see some of the findings in the article have translated to your real life experiences. If you have been in rentals for a while, have you seen a noticeable trend as generations get older and become largely represented in the rental pool?
