Post: Needing advice for my son

I have a very capable 22 year old son who is a 3rd year electrician apprentice. He has no debt (including NO credit card, school and automobile debt). He has managed to save $35k with a small $2k emergency fund living at home. He plans on buying a home after he finishes his apprenticeship program next summer, gets his Master's License and new job. What advice or push in a right direction can I give him, to help him be prepared for this next step? We have talked a few times about rental properties but I'd also like for him to hear from or meet some folks living the life.

Thanks for help, Mike W.

@Nathan Smith College is an apprenticeship for a 9-5 job. It teaches communication, social skills and skills for the area of work your degree is intended. Unfortunately it comes with heavy debt if done the wrong way. College is not for everyone either. Might I suggest you look at the skilled trades such as an electrician, plumber or heating and a/c. These types of professions will give you a decent salary and some hands on experience in construction. As your learning the trade and working you will be able to stock pile some cash and have an opportunity to educate yourself and work on some REI relationships in your area.
