@Justin McElroy Happy to chat brother!  My gf and I are just renting in Hermosa but I'm eager to buy my first property (preferably investment property) but still tbd.  Happy to have you back in the SoCal bubble!

Thanks @Jason Hsiao and @Dan H. for the feedback/comments, very helpful.  Also fun to see another person from Poway (I'm from there as well!)

@Jason Hsiao Yeah it's definitely a great strategy - my agent/investor friend in San Diego has recommended me the same path.  As I mentioned previously, house hacking isn't an option for me at this time (currently renting and girlfriend is not interested in that).  I'm in Hermosa Beach (South Bay LA) - but open to properties here, OC, or SD.

@Justin McElroy Curious to hear how this process went for you.  I'm researching additional lender options outside of HMLs and am curious if your SoFi experience was easy, painful, etc.  Also, were you planning on using the funds just for Rehabbing or also to fund the payment of the property/down payment?

Thanks! Mike

I'm in the same boat as you @Eric Colicchio, from SoCal and on the same path in terms of saving up funds for my first purchase.  I've been looking in and out of state to better understand the markets and what my options are.  I'm currently renting and don't think the House Hack option is possible (living with GF and she's not onboard)  I just joined a few virtual meetups and hope that will help, suggest you do the same!

Hi all-

A little about me:

My name is Mike, from San Diego but currently live in Hermosa Beach, California. I work in Tech and have a great W2 job but want to really learn more about real estate investing to diversify my portfolio.

RE Interests:

My goal for the year (outside of actually purchasing a property) is to network and meet investors for potential partnership opportunities. I'm interested in buy & hold STR/LTR in and out of state, and would prefer property types that are SFH/Duplex/Multi-family. There are a few locations I'm interested in but haven't done enough research to make any informed decisions.

Anyway, enough about me, thank you for your time, and I look forward to connecting with many of you this year!

Mike
