@Scott Mac

I think I like that "Robert" guy.

But you may be on to something there, people only can judge based on their own experiences and the experiences they've heard from others. If all they hear is the negative, which lets be honest that's all most share anyways (you rarely see good reviews), that's all they remember.
One of these guys said it earlier in this thread, it's ok, Landlords need Tenants! :-)

@Eric Mayer

I subscribe to that thought, from an early age we're taught to drone on as good little worker bees/students. When you try to think for yourself, you're told to get back in line. The good worker bees see a friend about to step out of line and don't want me to get hurt or in trouble!

@Joel Owens

Thanks for the input Joel, you bring up a pretty valid point. Where most see risk, some can see calculated potential. And that is hard to understand for those who can't see past the risk!

@Billy Smith

Topeka is a sellers market right now.

Low inventory, houses are selling for substantially more than county value.

The “deals” are hard to find.

I’ve got lots of bugs in lots of ears.

It’s not what you know, it’s who you know. Sometimes.

@Josh Ray

Josh, great perspective.

You know, in the moment, it’s really easy to get defensive and put up walls and find what all is wrong with them to make you feel better about your decision.

Thanks for helping me to see it from the other perspective. That’s valuable insight.

@Steve Vaughan

I’m telling you, even my own father-in-law, who is a pretty wealthy dude told me, about having rentals “Mike, I’d rather get beat by a stick”! lol

It’s not for everybody.

You guys on here have been pretty good for my morale. I looked at a house yesterday to flip and I think I’m going to be putting in an offer shortly.

@Kris H.

Pretty simply put.

I don’t disagree.

If you’re just fine with never wanting more, how can anybody with any sort of ambition listen to your advice?

@Pat L.

Great word Pat, perseverance and a little word I heard a preacher make up one time:

Stick-to-it-tiveness!

And a whole lot of homework and planning!

@Anthony Wick

Thanks John erm I’m, I mean Anthony. :)

Seriously tho, in this single thread alone I’ve been revitalized.

You guys are awesome.

You know like a lot of these guys have said, it’s REALLY easy to be judgy and negative of things that you don’t understand.

But you all are doing it, you understand it and yes, it’s not always going to be rainbows and butterflies, but the positive advice and words I’ve received here have really been helpful and well received.

Thanks again

@Rick Albert

Man, Rick, that is SPOT ON!

Unfortunately, we can not rely on our 401ks and ROTH IRAs to support us in retirement.

You just can’t. Myself especially, we’re a single family income of 5. I have 3 kids and it’s my wife and myself.

Some time soon all of those little rug rats are gonna be wanting cars and then going to college.

How do people afford it?!

I’ll tell you how. Crippling debt!

The only real way an average Joe like myself retires (early if I play my cards right) comfortably, is residual income.

I asked someone this series of questions:

1. whats your single biggest asset?

2. How is your wealth calculated?

3. What is the best way to build wealth?

Answers

Your house is your best asset.

Your wealth is calculated by your net worth (in my opinion, ok).

If those things are true, then wouldn’t you logically buy more of what has already built your net worth the most??
