Long-Story, Short....
- Self Improvement: For the past few months I've been immersed in my personal development. I had to take a big step back, pause life and really analyze myself to see where I was heading and what I was becoming. It was during this time that I clearly started to realize my habits/rituals (good and bad) and understood that in order for me to improve I had to make a change. There was a lot of self-discipline and sacrifice that needed to happen but it was for the better. I wasn't a big reader growing up but I finally found topics I could relate to and I became a reading-feen overnight. I wanted to get my hands on everything I could. Having a long commute for my day job, I began listening podcasts, youtube videos, and this helped me in ways I could never imagine in both my personal life and work life.
- Education: My ongoing personal development was never about making more money but rather having a sense of fulfillment day in and day out. Then like many of you, I stumbled on Rich Dad, Poor Dad and the first thing I did was toss it aside. I was skeptical because I didn't want to get sucked into money making, get-rich schemes, and learned throughout my self-improvement stages that true happiness is a whole lot more than just making money and I'm still a big believer in this. But on the other end it was important to understand the concept of investing your profits. As the great Jim Rohn said it best, "wages earn you a living but profits make you a fortune." At the time, I vaguely understood the concept but never took action. It was only until when I found an article in Forbes about a 28 year old that retired. Sure enough, Rich Dad book was mentioned and shortly after I finally gave in. I'm a husband and I have a 16-month old son so I had to be pretty resourceful with my time but I managed to finish the book within a 2-day span and I was drawn into the asset building mindset.
- Taking Action: So this is why I am here and FINALLY glad that I found a place with like-minded individuals. Biggerpockets allows us build relationships, learn something new every day about our financial education, and most importantly it gives us the power to take action.
I don't know if I have a character count limit on my "about myself" section but I hope to build upon this journey every few months. I'd love to connect and I thank you for reading my long story short...
