I'm new to the forum (and a bit biased I must say) but Anacortes is a great community to invest in. Yes, property prices are higher than nearly all surrounding areas, but it's an island of the best kind: you can drive to it; no ferry. Between the refineries or the Navy base close by, and the fantastic schools and low, low crime rate, it's place that more are more families are looking for.

I've got an older home as a rental that I rehabed myself. My day job is commercial boatbuilding, but I've spent >15yrs in general contracting. If you need any local contacts I'd be happy to point you to good people.

Hello

My name is Matt. I was referred to this site by a friend who has a few rental properties and it seems like there's some great information. I work in the commercial boat building industry and my wife is a CPA, so essentially she's the brains and I'm the brawn :] We live in an island/coastal neighborhood 1-1/2hr N of Seattle. We've decided to keep our starter home as a rental as we move into one a bit larger. I've got a lot of experience in contracting, but I'm here to learn about the pitfalls that I don't know about. Don't intend on making this my full-time job, but I'd love to put in a little thought & a little sweat and see what we can do.
