Quote from @Jeff Roth:

Congratulations on your first short-term rental.

Make sure you watch your expenses and focus on the guest experience for positive reviews.

Think about whether having your own cohost dedicated to your property will help you book it and manage the guest experience to the level you want for your guests.

Congratulations again!

 Thanks, Jeff!

Congrats on your first purchase! Start with knowing who your customer will be and make every decision based on that. Families? Couples?, etc. It's going to cost more and be more work to get started than you think (unless you bought a turn key, furnished place) but will be easier than you thought it was going to be once it is up and going. Feel free to send me a message if you have specific questions along the way.

Hi Travis,

I think I lucked out a bit. The place is a condo in a building that is half-hotel. I have not viewed the property but from what I understand it comes fully furnished, could potentially be run by the hotel (including maintenance), and is oceanfront. It's a 2 bed, 2 bath, so I am thinking it could be for a small family or maybe one or two couples on a beach getaway. I think so far my only expense would be kitchen supplies (pots, pans, and cutlery) and cleaning supplies for the customers.

But I am also prepared for some minor bumps ahead.

Hi guys,

Been a BiggerPockets supporter for years, and I'm finally getting my first Short-Term rental (Condo on the beach). Do any pros have tips for me?

I want to have a couple of questions lined up for the agent and wanted to see if you guys have any advice for unforeseen bumps in the road ahead.

Also, if you guys have a step-by-step you follow, or like a checklist when purchasing a property for Airbnb? Or tips on being a good host?

Thanks so much!
