Hello all, I plan on building a 300 sq ft Adu studio in my backyard, I live in Los Angeles south bay area. I plan on hiring an architect or structural engineer to submit plans. Any advice on how to prepare for the initial conversation with the architect or engineer.

What type of questions should i ask?

what type of questions will the architect or structural engineer have for me?

Anyone have any bad experiences i should be aware of?

Any recommendations?

Thank you

@Brian Larson @Jared W Smith @Xander Tertychny Thank you guys for the info. So if they go off the cost of the construction who is estimating that cost the architect or do i have to get a contractor to give me a quote first?

Hello all, My name is Marcos Urvina, i live in Los Angeles Ca south bay area. I want to take advantage of the new rules and regulations passed to make it easier for homeowners to build an Adu in there house lot. I plan on building a 300 sq ft studio in my backyard and either rent it out long term or maybe do Airbnb. What would be a fair and reasonable cost for an architect or structural engineer to design and submit plans on this type of project? Do they charge by per sq ft, hourly? Any advice, input, or experiences would be appreciated thanks.

Any investors in the los angeles, orange, riverside, san bernardino counties know any banks or credit unions that work with investors and provide construction loans. I want to build a studio in my back yard to rent it out. Any advice or referrals from someone you have used and had a great outcome with would be appreciated.

@Raymond Dwyer Thanks for the information, great explanation of the difference between the 2. So if i just want to get a quote to build a studio in my backyard would i have to pay the architect to design the plans and then the general contractor would be able to provide the quote going off the plans?
