@Ned Carey, yes I meant to say Landlords policy, and thanks for the input.

I haven't talked to any agents yet, so I might try contacting one.

Hello everyone, just a quick question about insurance while house hacking. For my first property, I intend to live in one side and rent out the others. So for the insurance, should I go for a homeowners policy or a renters policy? Thanks! Lindy

@Bryan N. I understand what you're saying. It's something I've been thinking a lot about lately. I don't necessarily want to lie to them, just never tell them I'm the owner. @Justin Tahilramani thanks for the advice. I've considered both of those, I'll have to look closer at each to see if it's something that would be worth it with my first property.

Hello fellow BP'ers! I'm seeking some advice for living in the same building as my tenants. Next year in the spring, I plan to purchase a multifamily home, and I'm trying to think of ways to convince my possible tenants that I am not the landlord, just another tenant. I'd prefer this, that way when tenants have problems, they don't come knocking on my door, since I'm so close. Any tips or advice is appreciated!

Michael Jobe It's good to hear that there is more opportunity down in NC. That's one of my main reasons for wanting to move. I haven't looked at the market too much, but I'll occasionally look at listings in the Triangle to see what properties are selling for. And like you said, I want to connect with some locals from NC that way when I do make the move, I can hit the ground running. Josh Bakhshi I'm going to be writing down a generalized business plan soon, and as I learn more, I'll adjust. And no lenders yet. I'm still trying to decide on VA vs FHA loan.

Thanks for the tips Dmitriy Fomichenko ! I'll be sure to set up the alerts, that sounds like it would be really useful.

I want to focus on properties in the areas surrounding Raleigh (Apex, Cary etc.) But if an opportunity for a deal presents itself, I'll look into other areas across the state.

Hello everyone! My name is Lindy McConnell. I'm 20 years old and I'm new to BiggerPockets, and real estate in general. At the moment I live in Ohio, but next Spring I plan to move to North Carolina and buy a multi family home. I want to live in one unit and rent the others out. I'm either going to use a VA home loan, or an FHA loan. After the required year of residency, I'm going to find another MFH to buy and repeat the process. My goal is to have enough properties and enough cash flow to be able to quit my day job and focus on being a landlord by the time I'm 30. At the moment, I'm focusing on educating myself about real estate and landlording by reading the forums daily, and also listening to the podcasts. I hope to connect with fellow Investors, especially in North Carolina since that's where I'll start my journey. I look forward to becoming an active member on the forums!
