I'm moving up to the area in December, and this was helpful to read. I noticed the same thing with the high concentration of 4-units in that area. Thanks for the post!

Anchorage investors,

My name is Landon. I'm in the Army and am commissioning in a couple of weeks. After some training this summer, I'll be moving up to Anchorage for my first duty station as an active duty officer. I fully intend to invest throughout my military career and am looking forward to living in Anchorage! I know networking is often the most valuable thing you can do, so if you are an investor in Anchorage, please reach out! Feel free to comment with hello's, suggestions, and anything else someone moving up to Alaska should know!

I am originally from Utah and am used to a hot/competitive market. I was going to get something here in Utah before moving out of state, but it's just been too crazy for me to compete with as a first-time home buyer. I plan to house-hack a 2-4 unit multifamily as my first property, and by the looks of it, there's a lot of multifamily in Anchorage. There seems to be a lot of 4-plex's, but I'm sure some areas are better than others.

I would greatly appreciate any info/tips/tricks/suggestions/connections you have for me regarding Anchorage, JBER, and the surrounding area. Thanks all!

-Landon

@Reece Ludwig Thanks for the info! Good to know. From my perspective from an expensive market, prices look pretty good in the area, but I haven't looked into rental rates and COC returns very much.

@Sam Lenderman

I know this is almost 2 years ago, but I just searched Fort Rucker, and your post came up! I'm possibly moving there for military training for 1+ year, and am interested in the REI market. Did you ever end up buying a place?

Utah is an expensive market right now, especially in Utah County. I am just getting started here on BP and want to make my first home purchase an investment opportunity. I’ll be leaving Utah here in a year for active duty military service and would love to have a rental in place prior to moving away.

I know it’s a super high entrance point right now, but I’ve heard over and over that there are always opportunities out there even in expensive markets. So, I want to network as much as possible with people here in Utah County or the surrounding area. Knowledge (and networking) is power!
