@Richeline Lowe

I am an American but I am living in the Netherlands for a few years. I'm new as well! Welcome!

I know there's a Netherlands real estate group on meet up. I believe they just had an event recently in Rotterdam a few weeks ago.

Cheers!

Laura

Post: Do I replace a roof that isn't leaking?

@Troy Purvis

If you can I would replace it before renters get in it. If you choose a good quality shingle you can be set for 30 years. Yes it's more now, but in the long run, you won't have pitential damage.

I worked for a roofing company ( my in-laws own one and my husband put himself through grad school roofing) and sometimes there's a lot more damage than just a leak. And if your tenants don't notice or care much about the property, they may not tell you for a while.

Good luck with it!

@Andrew Mestdagh

I worked for my inlaws' roofing company for a few years. Skylights can be problematic and typically don't even last the life of the roof. Solar tubes are amazing! They're less expensive and create an abundance of light (a lot more than you'd think).

Hello,

We recently relocated to Europe from the USA for a few years for my husband's employment.

I have been interested in real estate for a few years now, but never really looked into it. I'm a stay at home mom and thought I'll do it one day...

However, I think something with the huge move, "woke me up" and I'd like to see what I can do sooner than later.

Has anyone invested in property in the USA while living abroad? Besides the distance, (I just bought Long Distance Real Estate Investing) are there any other issues that someone may not anticipate when dealing internationally?

I'd love to hear your experiences if you'd like to share!

Thanks,

Laura

@Scott Passman

Great topic.

My family and I are expats in the Netherlands from the USA. We moved this June from Idaho. Last night we had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with a small group of fellow Americans in the area.

The one thing we all had in common was our American roots and we gathered together in a "foreign" country to remember and celebrate all that we are thankful for.

It was probably one of the most pleasant and genuine Thanksgiving celebrations I've ever been a part of.
